Claire Franco ... Squirrel Whisperer
Claire has been communicating with wildlife! Just a few days ago, while sipping a cup of tea at the dining room table, I noticed a squirrel on our porch. I quietly called to Claire, who was playing with her dolly in the living room, and told her to "come and look!" She immediately put down her toy and ambled over to the door. She began to wave to the squirrel like they were old pals and jabbered away to it in Claire-ese. Well, apparently, this particular squirrel is fluent in both Squirrel-ish AND Claire-ese, because it zipped over to the door where she was standing and stood on his (hers? who can tell with a squirrel???) hind legs, and I SWEAR he was smiling!!!! Well, it was either that, or he was trying to get to the pizza crust Claire had in her hand! (Where she got THAT, one can only guess! I'm thinking she had it stashed under the couch!) SO, every day since then, we've been leaving peanuts out for our new little friend. Claire has a pet!!! Sort of ... .
BAAAAAAD Parenting DayI'm hoping everyone is already nodding their heads with understanding at the above title of this next segment. Otherwise, please skip this part, you'll be mortified. The day itself started normally enough, breakfast, an episode of Sesame Street, playtime, a little "nursie" and so on, until I decided to log on to the computer! Usually a non-issue with Claire. She has toys by the computer and plenty of space to play, so, no biggie. WELL, ahem, apparently on this day, SOMEONE was starving for my attention. There I was, typing away an e-mail to a friend (who I'm sure is reading this right now with NO clue...) and I noticed something was different ...Quiet. Quiet is DEFINITELY no good when you have toddler around the house, unless of course, they are sleeping. I found her very quickly, (THANK GOODNESS!!!!) attempting to jam my car keys into an outlet. The only one in the house with no safety plug! I caught her just in time!!! I nearly passed out at the thought of what could have happened! (Although, I HAVE heard of someone's brother doing something similar and living to tell, or was she trying to make me feel better??? Hmm...) Just when I thought the situation was resolved, Claire is playing in her room and I can hear something rattling, sounds kind of like ... Yup, a plastic bag! She somehow got into her closet, found a bag of something-or-other, dumped it, and came waltzing out to me, laughing, mind you, with the bag over her head!!! At this point, I was ready to call 9-1-1, for me, not Claire! I was having a little bit of difficulty with my breathing and desperately needed a brown bag to breathe into!!!! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
I was more than relieved when she went to bed that night, let me tell you!!! I hear things don't get much easier from here on in. I'll just keep a first aid kit handy, dial the 9-1, and have a finger on the second 1, just in case!!!!! OY! The gray hairs!!!
General Claire Update
Claire is still attending her Kindermusik classes and enjoying every minute of it! I'm am so happy that we made the decision to enroll her. She seems to be really blossoming in the class! She's a regular cut-up in class!!! There is a song we sing that is supposed to be a quiet time for mother and child. Babies are to sit with their mommies while mommies sing to them. Well, not Claire. She REFUSED to sit with me. She INSISTED on standing in the middle of the circle, dancing and dancing and singing to herself!!! Arms upraised like a little ballerina! Our instructor found this to be rather amusing. I'm just hoping the other moms don't think she learned that from me!
Claire seems to have reached a plateau growth wise. Once she started walking, she thinned out a bit and seemed to get a little taller, other than that, she's the same ol' Claire, bouncy, chirpy and into pretty much everything. That's the way we like her though, anything less wouldn't be her style!!
Well, that's about it for this week. If I think of anything else, why, I guess it'll have to wait until next week! Hope to catch you all back here then!
Oodle-oo! (as Claire would say!)
