Heather's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

July 9, 2001

Well, I don't really know what happened to my keeping up with the diary entries! So, I apologize for taking so darned long with my "Claire updates"!
Claire is now 23 months old. Birthday number two is just around the corner!! I can hardly believe it! We are trying (the key word here is TRYING) to plan a birthday party for her back in our home town in Pennsylvania. It is not as simple as I had originally thought. At the moment, we are trying to rent a picnic pavillion at a very nice Y camp on Lake Erie. We can grill our food, swim in a pool or even down at the lake. I'm hoping that it all pans out. Keep your fingers crossed for smooth sailing! :0)

Now, as for Miss Claire.... She seems to be growing....The shoes I bought her for the summer are already too small, as are some of the summer outfits I bought back in April. (thinking I was WAY ahead of the game. Alas, it was not to be!! **SIGH**) Her crazy, curly brown locks are in desperate need of a trim, she's beggining to look like a young Medusa!!!! She is not particularly fond of having a hairbrush run through her hair either. Something's got to give.... either the hair goes, or I DO!!!! HAHA!

On the vocabulary front, She is talking up a storm, which is not always a good thing. The other day, as soon as her big, brown eyes popped open in the morning, so did her mouth. It did not close (regardless of food content, YUCK!) until she fell sound asleep that night. Mind you, she speaks pretty well for a little tyke, but there are times I'm clueless as to what she is saying. She is very animated, using her hands to talk (must be the Italian in her, eh?) and gets VERY upset if you can't understand her. Sometimes, you just have to fake it. :0)

Right now, she is in the living room with her daddy, watching sports of some sort. Any of you that know Claire, know that she is a sport-a-holic. It doesn't matter WHAT game/event is on, she is right there rooting for her "favorite" team! When hockey season ended, we were in a bit of a panic, as she WOULD NOT go to sleep at night unless she was watching hockey on tv. (bad habit, I know) Well then along comes baseball season and, HEY! We have a winner! Baseball is now the new sport of choice in this house!! We have been to Detroit Tigers games, Toledo Mudhens games and Erie SeaWolves games.... all this before the age of 2!!!! AND.... this child will sit through an entire game!!! She wears her baseball hat and "beeball" shoes to every game! (she actually has little sandals with baseballs, bats and gloves on them!) She even asks to sleep in her Toledo Mudhens shirt!!!! I think we have created a monster!!!!

Oh, I just have to tell this story to, don't mind my rambling...
We (Troy, Claire and I) went to lunch on Saturday at a little pub where they had t.v.s in every corner with some sort of sporting event on each one. While Troy and I were chatting, Claire was sitting in her booster seat yelling and pointing "Homerun!! Homerun!!" We were confused for a second, until we both looked across the pub at the one tv with baseball on and saw, yes indeed, Robby Alomar of the Cleveland Indians, had hit a homerun!!! now, keep in mind that the tv was muted and we were sitting all the way on the other side of the pub. Troy's jaw dropped, I just stared at her. A guy at the next table turned to look at Claire, looked back at the tv, looked back at Claire again and shook his head. "She doesn't watch much baseball, does she?" he asked. Since then, we have been trying to figure out how the heck she knew. I have no answer, other than she JUST KNEW. My toddler, the sport prodigy. I always imagined I'd have some artistic child, a budding artist, a violin player.... not this!!! HAHAHA! Oh well, it's very amusing and I guess, in some ways, is helping her vocabulary!

So, that is all for now from the Francos here in Midwestern America. We'll be back again soon to update you all on Claires newest antics!!!
Have a good week!
