Erin C's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

January 2, 2001

Damn, now I have to get used to writing "01" on my checks instead of "00". I complain about it every year and it takes about a month or so before I get used to it!! Oh well, life goes on. I guess you could say that I took a break from writing my diary entries over the holidays, but I don't really think anyone will notice since my toddler diary isn't up yet. I'm sure it will be in the next week or so, I have a feeling that the iParenting offices were closed over the holidays. But, now the holidays are over and it's time to get back to normal. As much as I LOVE the holidays and having up all the decorations, I do get pretty tired of it all and by the time we ring in the new year I'm ready to take it all down. I was getting tired of making sure that Tyler wasn't about to attack our tree or rip apart a small Christmas tree that I had sitting next to the TV. We did have a great Christmas though, one of the best ever. New Year's, however, was a totally different story ...

Tyler and his cupOh, Christmas was absolutely wonderful this year. My parents stayed the night because we thought it would be fun to have them there when Tyler went to open his gifts that Santa had left for him under the tree (and AROUND the tree, by the fireplace, next to the couch, etc.). I think it's a tradition we're going to start for each year -- I really enjoyed having my parents there that morning. Tyler loved all of his gifts and plays with at least one everyday. He got a lot of books, a wagon (which is out on the garage waiting for spring), a cozy coupe car, a workbench, and a few other things which I just can't think of right now!! Tyler really got in to opening all of his gifts, even got in to opening a few that weren't for him! He loved the bows the best and liked to wave around little pieces of wrapping paper. It was a blast watching him open up his gifts and the smile on his face couldn't have been bigger. After all the unwrapping was done, my dad pulled Tyler around the house in his new wagon. He absolutely adores the thing, so I can't wait to use it in the spring. And, once Tyler's Aunt Mimi and Uncle Nick got here, Aunt Mimi pushed him around the house in his new car!! It was so funny and unbelievably cute.

Once everyone got here we all opened our gifts to each other. We all got wonderful gifts and had a great time together as always. Steve and I got a really nice new camera. We've been needing one really badly. My favorite part about the entire day was having everyone together in our home. Tyler thoroughly enjoyed the day and couldn't get enough of his new toys and books. The food we cooked was delicious and everyone was happy. I couldn't have asked for more -- well, except for the fact that I wished that Steve's family could have been there too (for those of you that don't know, Steve's family lives in Pittsburgh). My sister and brother-in-law were the last ones to leave and they didn't go until about 11 p.m.!!! We had so much fun, it really made up for our bad experience last Christmas!!!!!

Tyler and MommySo, on to New Year's. I just knew that since Christmas was so wonderful that at least ONE of the holidays had to suck. Here's how it went down: Saturday late afternoon Tyler is feeling a little warm. He's been teething with a vengeance, so I figured that was the culprit and gave him a dose of Advil. That night, his sleep is terribly fitful and he wakes in the middle of the night feeling HOT. So, I gave him another dose and let him sleep on me until morning. His fever was back and was at about 102. We immediately called the doctor and she told us that he needed a stronger dose of medicine and that we needed to keep at it every 4 hours -- if the fever wasn't gone in 48 hours we were going to have to take a trip to the ER (SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME). So, we kept at it, the highest his fever got was 102.8 and that was only because he slept through when we were supposed to give him another dose of Tylenol (we were alternating Tylenol and Children's Advil as the doctor told us to). So, Steve and I were too freakin' tired to even stay up until midnight. We watched the ball drop on TV at 11 p.m. our time, had a glass of champagne, and then tried to get some sleep before Tyler woke again (which didn't happen). He slept with us most of that night and on Monday night too. Thankfully, his fever has been gone since yesterday morning, although now he's got a rash. Sound familiar to any of you? This same EXACT thing happened back at the end of August, beginning of September. Although his temp was much higher this time. Thankfully, Tyler was already scheduled to see the doctor today, so we'll see what they have to say. I don't think they'll give the shots he was scheduled for though. We'll see. All I know is that I was worried sick these past few days, and I hate not knowing WHY he had that fever. Funny thing is though, Tyler was pretty much his normal happy self while he was sick -- just a little irritable. Well, I'll stop talking about Tyler being sick and let you all know what he is up to.

He is walking around ANYTHING and everything that doesn't move. He pulls up and walks around chairs, tables, the couches, all his toys, the vanity in the bathroom, changing table, our bed -- you name it, he can walk around it! I've noticed too that lately he'll stand on his own for a minute or so while he's near something stationary. It's getting quite exciting and I can't wait for him to walk. He is really talking up a storm lately, whether it's just babble or actual words. You all know that he says mama and dada, but now he says baby, book and bear. Plus, if he sees something he wants he points to it. You should seem him when he sees a lot of things he wants -- he just starts pointing at things like crazy!! Quite the site! So, we try and say the word of whatever it is he's pointing at. Lately, he likes to point at the baby on the Gerber jar and say "baby." Very cute!! He really is growing!!!

Well, I think that's all I have to update this week. I'm still recovering from this weekend, so I need to go rest up a bit. I'll scan in two pictures from Christmas. Hope everyone had a great holiday!!! Please give big hugs to your babies!! I've been missing them!!!

See you next week!!

Erin
