Hi moms and dads,

The girls had their 18-month check-up (at 19 months), and they are doing great! Our pediatrician marked their percentiles based on 19-month-olds, so these stats are age-accurate: Julianna weighed 24 pounds, 13 ounces, putting her in the 50th percentile, and Cassandra weighed 24 pounds, 8 ounces, also in the 50th. Cassie is catching up to her sister in weight! I’m not surprised, since she’s a great eater.

Cassie measured 33 ¾ inches tall, putting her in the 75-90th percentile and Jules measured 33 ½ inches, also in the 75-90th. They’re probably the same height, given room for error (wriggling bodies, etc.). I have no idea why they’re so tall -- I’m only 5 feet, 2 inches (putting me in the 25th percentile!) and Alvin is probably 5 feet, 9 inches (average for a man). Go figure! They’ve been tall all along, so it looks like they’ll end up being about 5 feet, 6 inches or so. I’ll really "look up" to them, I guess. ;-)

The pede was pleased with their progress. Their vocabulary grows every day, and they’re starting to speak in three-word sentences: "I want some," "Uh oh, Baby," etc. They’re also walking up and down stairs unassisted, holding onto the railing. They do not want to hold our hands -- they’re so independent! They understand nearly everything we say or ask of them.

CJ is also doing well. He weighs about 35 pounds and is 38 ½ inches tall, roughly putting him in the 50th and 35th percentiles, respectively. He’s been having a good summer, I think. He has discovered books on tape and just loves them. Dr. Seuss is a big favorite: Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, etc. He also loves Jamberry on tape, as well as several Spanish titles: Three Little Pigs (Los Tres Cerditos!), etc. He knows how to operate the tape recorder, so he just plays his tapes for himself and his sisters. It’s sweet.

Hard to believe it’s already August. I’m trying to savor the summer as much as possible. I hope you are, too! Please let me know what you think of our new baby: http://iParentingStore.com. Have a great week!
