Hi moms and dads,
We had such a great trip to see my grandmother. She’s 90 years old, still taking care of herself and has a memory better than mine. Truly inspirational – she amazes me! All we do when we’re there is eat and relax and eat and play with kids and eat and sleep and eat. She’s not happy unless we’re stuffing our faces. ;-) It was a nice break and change of scenery, too. The kids love her dearly and were sad to leave. I just feel great that they have a relationship with a great-grandparent – I never did.
And CJ is such a lucky boy. He has such a close relationship with my dad, his grandfather. They go on train rides together and spend entire weekend days together, hanging out, running errands, gardening. It’s special. Hopefully the girls will also grow close to their grandparents and spend lots of time with them like that.
Two little girls in ponytails and pastels. Julianna wants to be a big girl already. She climbs into CJ’s chair at the dinner table and wants to eat whatever he’s eating. I’ve caught her there several times, eating his leftovers; a dangerous thing since she has allergies (at least to milk). I need to take her to the allergist to test her fully – I just hate the thought of her getting stuck with lots of needles. It has to be done, though.
The list of words Jules and Cass say is growing. They say "down," "out," "bye-bye, mama," and more. Oh, and their physical prowess is growing! The other day, I heard a thud in their room during nap time. They had been awake for about five minutes, talking to each other, so I hadn’t rushed in to get them. All of a sudden, boom! I ran into their room, and there’s Julianna, on the padded, carpeted floor! Yes, at 17 months, she launched herself out of her crib. (CJ did this when he was about 18+ months.) Cassie was just staring at her, dumbfounded. Jules was crying, and I feared the worst: a fat lip, bloody nose, etc. But she was fine! She had a small scratch on her leg, that’s it. Thank God!
So Alvin went to work, drilling holes in the crib and securely screwing a metal/mesh bed rail to the top of the crib side that faces out (the other side is against the wall, and the short sides are very high). So now she’s pretty much trapped. It’s time to start thinking about a toddler bed, though! They always keep us jumping…
Have an excellent week!
Elisa
