Hi fellow moms and dads,
The girls are still not sleeping through the night. Almost 15 months old, and I still get up at least once per night to nurse them. We tried a new strategy: having them sleep in the same room. They used to sleep together. At first, they slept in the same bassinet. Then, the same crib. Then, different cribs in the same room. Then, we figured they may sleep through the night if they didn’t hear each other and wake each other up at night. But since that hasn’t made a difference, we’re back to them sleeping in the same room to see if that helps them sleep better.
The first night, it did seem to help. They slept all the way until 5:00 a.m. It was like a breakthrough. The next night, however, Cassie woke up crying, thus waking Julianna. With both of them crying in the same room, I went in to nurse one while Alvin held the other. It was tough. I’m hoping they’ll get used to having each other in the room and feel comforted by that. Did I mention that having twins is really tough sometimes? It’s the sleep deprivation that gets me.
But the upside is so much stronger. Seeing them play together and grow up side by side is wonderful. They are never alone, and that’s comforting to me. Jules is a walking maniac, and Cass still prefers to crawl. Both are talking more and more. Today, after I changed Cassandra’s diaper, I said, "All done!" and she repeated to me, "Awdone!" Then Julianna said it, too. It was beautiful.
Have an excellent week.
Elisa
