Debbie's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

September 20, 2000

Hello everyone!

I know it's been awhile since I've been in touch. Rich, Nathan and I have been busily settling into our new home and neighborhood. So far it's been great! Many of the neighbors have stopped by to say hello and introduce themselves. This is a very kid-friendly neighborhood with lots of little ones running around. One of the best things about the neighborhood is the elementary school is less than two blocks away. Although Rich thinks I'm a little batty, I absolutely love watching the other moms and dads walking their little ones to and from school each day. I can't wait until we are at that point with Nathan.

Nathan has grown so much over the summer in so many ways. He's a lot taller, his vocabulary impresses us every day and he is soooo fearless. Although I still can't seem to get him to understand the joy of a swing, he absolutely loves water. Any kind of water will do: bathwater, pool water, even a glass of water to drop things into. We pretty much stayed away from public pools (and will until he understands the concept of not swallowing the water), he loved climbing into any one of the various wading pools we have for him. Because we spent so much time in polo, we had to make sure there was a pool there for him to play in as well. Since I'm not much into water games, Rich was extremely nice about accompanying Nathan into the water.

Just a few days ago Nathan was starting to show the beginning signs of learning how to peddle. He was patient and cooperative while I tried to show him and made several good attempts, but went back to pushing his tricycle with both feet when I walked away. I look forward to next summer with great anticipation, when I know my little Nathan will be ready for a two-wheeler. OK, so I'm being a little pushy!

If you read my diary entries when Nathan was a baby, you know I tend to get excited about the holidays. We (mostly me, because I'm the one most excited right now) are already making plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I think we will make great memories for Nathan (and any other little ones that come along) in this new house. Having Grandma living downstairs will make it all the more special.

**LATE BREAKING NEWS** While I sat down to write this entry, Nathan was happily jumping from Daddy's briefcase to the chair. At some point he missed and came to tell me he had a "hurt." When I asked him to show me where, he pointed to his knee. When I told him to let me see his knee he pulled up his pant led and showed me -- nothing visible, but I kissed it anyway. Even now he is walking around saying "knee hurt" "knee hurt." I'm sure Rich will be very proud to know Nathan learned a new body part today, although I'll probably leave out the part about Nathan using his briefcase as a springboard!

Take care 'til next time,

Rich, Debbie and Nathan
