Hi all,
We had a great 4th of July weekend, which kicked off with a family trip to the zoo on the 1st for my birthday. It may seem like an odd request, but when Rich asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday, the zoo was the first thing that popped in my head. I hadn't been there in several years and neither Nathan nor his cousin Alex have been there at all. So we packed up three kids ranging 18 months to 10 years and five adults (I'll skip the age range!), and headed off to see the lions and tigers and bears, oh my! It was great fun for all and everyone pretty much got to see what they wanted. Nathan was most curious about the dolphins, but he seemed to like the other animals as well.
The weekend was chock full of family, bar-b-cues and playing for Nathan. We're sure he had a pretty good time, although he wasn't too sure about the concept of fireworks. He jumped a couple of times at the big booms, but the lights seemed to keep his interest enough that he didn't want to leave.
The next few weeks will be busy with moving, baby showers, weddings (two that conflict!) and a family garage sale. I love summer and all of its activities, but I also can't wait to help Nathan build his first snowman. Last year the goal was to protect him from the weather as much as possible because he was so young, but this year he gets to experience the many joys of mid-western seasons.
Take care, Debbie, Rich and Nathan.
