Debbie's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
January 5, 2000
Hello all!!I hope everyone had a fun and safe New Year's celebration. Ours was relatively quiet. We cooked up a couple of steaks on my new George Foreman Grill (a Christmas gift), had a glass of champagne and watched the festivities on TV. Rich went to sleep shortly after midnight, but Nathan and I stayed up for awhile. My side of the family is "night people" (Rich calls us vampires). We all stay up quite late and like the nightlife. That's why on New Year's Eve my brother and I were on the phone with each other until about 1:00 a.m., while Rich and my sister-in-law slept the night away. Much to Rich's dismay, Nathan appears to be a "night person" as well. Or maybe we've conditioned him that way. In any case he usually has no interest in going to bed until we do ... and sometimes that can be quite late.
Besides his sleeping quirks, Nathan is doing quite well. Still having a blast with all his new toys from his birthday and Christmas. It appears that his favorite toy right now is the Duplo Lego blocks that Rich bought for him. Although he is not much interested in building the actual picture on the box, he does seem to find great joy in scattering the pieces all over the house and then putting them back in the box one by one.
Nathan has also become quite the expressive young man. He is so much better at communicating his likes and dislikes. When we have done or not done something to his liking he either drops to the floor as if there is no further point to life, or he proceeds to the nearest wall and begins to bang his head in frustration. After watching this in horror the first few times, we now just make sure he doesn't hurt himself and then redouble our efforts to try and figure out what he wants. Maybe it's because I spend more time with him, but I seem to be better at interpreting his cries than Rich. Rich seems to think all problems can be solved with a snack ... which works most, but not all, of the time.
We haven't had much snow around here yet, but we are itching to take Nathan for his first sled ride. Of course, I also haven't found the "perfect" sled yet ... so between the weather and the lack of equipment, Nathan probably won't be going sledding anytime soon. But I've got two absolutely adorable snow suits ready for him to wear when the time comes!
Take care, Rich/Debbie/Nathan
