Dawn's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
December 7, 2003
I think it has been almost a month now since my last entry. And what a busy month it has been.
An end to nursing
November 19th was the last day I nursed William. He was exactly 26 months old. It was sort of a sudden decision, int he sense that I had been thinking about it for sometime, but out of frustration one day I tried something that I didn't think would work but yet it did. I think if I had know he would give it up so easily I would have done something to make the last session more memorable, but then again it still is pretty vivid. The first time he realized he could no longer have his precious boppy, he cried to break his heart. But from then on, when the urge came to him, he just realized it was no longer available, and seemed to accept that really well. FOr myself, I was overwhelmed for about a week with the strong urge to let him nurse again, but fought it, as I knew it was best to lest this part of our relationship go. I was afraid that giving it up so suddenly was going to have negative affect on my physically, but I am pleased that there was no pain at all. The first day I felt a little full and slightly uncomfortable, but it never progressed past that. SO here it is three weeks later, and it still doesn't seem real, but it sure does feel good to have my body back again. I can even enjoy all the milk I want with no consequences to William! Yay! Some mornings he wakes up and still wants to snuggle into me, and sometimes asks to "look and see boppies". I usually let him have a little peak, just to reassure him that nothing is wrong with me, but I have been saying no lately, as that could be a bad habit in the future.
Santa Claus Parade
Yesterday was my birthday, and also the day of our Santa Claus Parade. IT was a beautiful day, the sun was shining, there was just enough snow on the ground to make it feel like Christmas, yet it did not feel overly cold as there was no wind. We found a place on Chruch Park Road, at the park, and William played in the snow while we waited for the parade to make it's way down to us. There is nothing overly spectacular about our parades. The floats or entires consisted of trucks owned by various businesses, who have a few bows on them; a number of fire, police and other rescue vechicles all playing Christmas music over the loud speakers, various marching bands (school, cadets, Salvation Army), cheerleaders, a few decorated floats in various themes, SPCA workers and their dogs, clowns haning out candy canes, and people collecting for the food bank. Oh and of course a float carrying Santa Claus. As unspectacular as it was, it was still quite exciting. I have always love the Christmas parade, adn it was so much fun to see William enjoy it so much as well. It sure made for a special birthday (which often falls on the day of the parade).
Letter to Santa Claus
Last week one day William was playing with his tools. One of his Bob the Builder books was lying on the floor, and I saw him eyeing it intently. Next think it looks like he is trying to put his tool into an imaginary tool belt. OF course they fell into the floor, and he seemed upset that he didn't own such a tool belt, as Bob apparently did. I took this opportunity to see if he wanted to write a letter to Santa with me. I told him he could ask Santa for a tool belt for Christmas if he liked, and of course he said yes! I got a crayon and paper and we sat down together to write. As I was writing WIlliam took me totally by surprise by shouting out, "ABCDEFG" I didn't even know he could do that. Now he didn't get much further than that, but I figure that's a good start. But the funniest thing was after the letter was completed and I read it out to him, he started looking around for his tool belt! I guess he thought that the act of writing a letter asking for something would produce that item immediately. I felt bad explaining to him that he would have to wait for Christams Day when Santa would come to out house. And for a few days after he would ask where his tool belt was. Of couse I could find no such toy in our limited stores, but his nan was able to find one in Montreal. I think he is going to be quite pleased when he receives this gift.
Santa and his Reindeer
I bought William this cute little rhyming book at the dollar store about Santa and his Reindeer. We read it everyday, and it wasn't long before he was able to fill in the last word on every page or sentence, as he often does with boos he is familiar with. Yesterday, however Will tried something else with him. He would stop reading half way through a sentence and WIlliam would complete each and every one! I was truly amazed, as any mohter would be. Some of the pages read: Santa lives and William says at the North Pole, far far far away; and another one reads, Santa lands on the - and William says roofs all covered with snow. And when he is finished each sentence he says to himself, good boy. Too cute.
I am getting very excited for Christmas. I just mailed out all my Christmas cards, 99% of my shopping is complete and the presents wrapped. Next weekend I have to do some cleaning and maybe some baking, ans then just count down the final days. Will's family arrives on the 21st, but we are going to moms for Christmas (3 nights) then returning to spend the rest of the holiday with the inlaws. It should be a wonderful time.
Until next time
