Dawn's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

October 11, 2003

It's Thanksgiving weekend and we are happily sharing our three dyas off with my parents. We just bid good bye to Will's mother, who was here visiting for a few days and left on Wednesday, and my brother who left on Friday. Gee it seems like we have an awful lot of company. The more the merrier I say. I have to say thought, that it does not seem like the middle of October here in eastern Canada. The temperature this weekend still allows for tshirts and shorts or capris, and even tonight it feels like a cool summer evening. The leaves don't even seem to be turning colour yet. Where is autumn? I have been anticipating the cool breezy weather so I could do some digging in the garden without the heat of the sun... those days have not yet arrived, but a new flower garden was added anyway. Ti is great for playing outdoors though, and William throughly enjoys the fresh air.

First poop in the potty!

Potty training has seemingly taken a life of it's own. I have not wanted to start with him until I was sure he was ready... and I am certainly not ready to go pamperless, especially when I think about what that will mean for our daily outings. However William seems to have other plans. At least for now. After work on Friday, I was told that William asked to pee in the potty, and did so. He had asked a few mornings in a row before that, but always went before we could get him out of him one piece button up pj's. That evening when we came home, he asked again to pee in the potty, but this time he pooped! For the first time ever. It's funny too, because my mother was due to arrive anytime, and WIll and I had this urge to save it for them to see. However the smell overpowered the bathroom and we helped WIlliam say goodbye to his first job well done. Today he asked several times to pee in the potty and was successful three times! He couldn't hold it every time, but still three times in one day is big progress for someone who isn't technically being potty trained yet. We'll see what happens in the next few days. He does wake up dry every morning now, and he seems to go 2 hours between pees so he may just be telling me that he is ready.

1-2-3

For as long as William could talk he has been counting things. However that counting was always witht he same two numbers. He would say, "2-9-2-9-2-9...." He then progressed to counting to 10 with me saying the odd numbers and him the even numbers; but his independent counting efforts were still 2 - 9. All week however, I have noticed that he consistently counts items and gets up to three.

I guess this was just a short update, but an update nonetheless.

Potty training questions:
Who decided it was time to rid your toddler of pampers, you or your toddler?

How long did the entire process take?

Am I really ready for all this?
