Summer Days, or are they?
After the heat wave we had a few weeks ago, the past few weeks have been a nice change. IT has been pleasantly cooler, with lots of rainy days in between. The only down side to that was that the plans of spending afternoons by the ocean side when we went to visit my mother, splashing in the waves, were instead spent looking through the windows at the robins digging worms out of hte ground after a fresh rainfall. Possibly equally as exciting to William (and my mother) but not to me. We did manage to get out for a few walks while on vacation, and of course there were lots of opportunities to smell the flowers in my father's garden, but to me it wasn't quite the summer vacation I had envisioned. We did get to take a number of trips to the new playground that is just a few minutes walk from my mom's, and William absolutely loved climbing through the tunnels, goin up and down on the see saw, and of course going down the slides. I think that was his favourite thing to do while we were home.
William and Bella finally meet
Of course the highlight of our trip home was getting to see Jeanette for the first time in like 8 years, and meeting little Isabella for the first time. Jeanette arrived after midnight last Wednesday night. After getting her settled and having a quick hello it was too late for any catching up, so we left all that for the morning. The strangest thing about seeing her again was how familiar talking with her seemed. With some people after years apart there seems to be a sort of awkardness or a lack of things to say. But with Jeanette it was as if we had never been seperated.
I had high hopes for her visit as well (not that it wasn't wonderful), lots of sightseeing, reminising about old hangouts, showing her how things have changed, and taking the kids to the beach, our cabin etc etc. However the day before she arrived she called to say that she had been suffering with a cold since her arrival in Canada. That evening I too began to get sick. William as well had a fever for a few days and then developed a cough and congestion as well. THe two of us moms spent most of the time resting (and catching up) ont he couch, with William fussy in my arms and Bella as cute as a bunny chatting up a storm with every man that entered our home. So although we had a wonderful visit, it wasn;t as filled with activities as I had imagined it would be.
Litte Bella
What a darling this little girl is. She is every bit the bundle of energy that I had imagined she would be and then some. I am saddened that she never really warmed up to me, not once would she let me pick her up, but i sure was delighted to watch her in action. And boy can she chat. I don't think I heard her take a break from the time she woke in the morning til the time she went to bed at night. Her and William looked so cute together, they are about the same height and are both tiny little things. William took a while to warm up to her though. I think being sick had a little to do with that, he was pretty good at sharing his toys and would offer her cookies and juice, but he always seemed to keep an eye on her as if to say this is my house!
Bella called my parents nanny and poppy and was immediately taken with my dad, brother and my husband (who arrived on Friday night). She would willing go up in John's arms in search of the cat, but at my suggestion to take her she would simply say no. She followed my dad around quite a bit as well. One day he was sitting in the living room eating a sandwich, she climbed up beside him and asked if he would share with her. IT was sooo cute. When Will arrived she was constantly asking to sit by him. She would sit up on the coush with him, snuggling right in to him. In his absence she would say, I want to sit by Will, where's Will. On one occasion she even walked into the kitchen (after we told her to go ask Will nicely if he wanted to come sit with her) and ordered him to "Sit down". She was a definite source of entertainment.
I am looking forward to continuing our visit with Jeanette and Bella on Thursday, when they are coming to our house for a night. we will even be travelling ont he same ferry on Saturday with them, so that should be fun. I am hoping by the end of the week we will all be feeling much better ( and that poor Bella doesn't catch our illness).
