Dawn's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
July 3, 2003
What an exciting week this has been. William had a wonderful time with his Nanny Oldford and we are now getting ready to go to my mother's house tomorrow to spend 10 days there. I am excitedly anticipating my reunion with Jeanette, and the meeting of dear little Bella. They will be staying at mom's house with us, so we are going to have lots of time to catch up. I am a little nervous, too, I must admit. You know when you see someone for the first time in years from high school, and you look nothing like you did back then, you sort of wonder what they are going to think of you? (OR is this just me?) From her pictures I can see that Jeanette is every bit as beautiful and stylish as she was. (Hope I am not embarassing you). Me on the other hand am still hanging on to some pregnancy weight (or is it!!) have dark brown hair instead of blond, and now wear classes. And style, well I'm not sure that I ever had any. I have been working on the weight for awhile with little success (I tend to be just happy with not gaining anymore), and the hair I think I am going to fix with some highlights on Saturday.
First pee in the Potty
Well I think the most exciting news of the past week has been William's first successful pee in the potty. I have not really been spending time trying to teach him to use the potty, but I do tell him whenever I have to pee, and occasionally sort of ask if he would like to try. Monday evening I was using the facilities and William was fussing so I suggested he try his potty too. He indicated that he wanted me to strip his bottom and he proceeded to sit on and off the potty (anytime he does sit on it it is only for a brief period of time - he usually gets off and on). He spent most of his time taking the little pot in and out from underneath the seat and as usual did not use the pot. The next morning we were sitting in the kitchen, Will's mother was still there and a friend of hers was over for tea. William came in pointing and saying pee pee. I asked him if he wanted to use the potty and he took the friend by the hand and led her to the bathroom, he came back for nanny and then myself. I took off his pamper and within a minute he was peeing. I was sooo excited for him that I think I frightened him into stopping. I then figured I better get him a jellybean as a reward. He then ran in sat on the potty again, pointing to his mought and requesting another bean. He then got off the potty and started to pee again all over the floor, all the while trying to get back to the potty. He hasn't thought about using it again since, but I figure that we have to start somewhere, and I really don't want to pressure him.
Poppy's boat
While Will's father was here we also had the opportunity to go out for a ride on his boat. He has a former RCMP boat, that has a nice sized cabin, and a long flat deck on the rear, and can hold a number of people. (Can you detect my lack of knowledge on boats?) We left from Springdale, which is an hour from here, and set out for a 2 hour ocean ride. Did I mention that we had a sort of heat wave all last week with temperatures reaching hte mid 30's, so our destination that day was Boot Harbour. Here we anchored the big boat and boarded the smaller speed boat that we were towing, and went to shore. This is where we went swimming in the most amazing place I have ever been too. The swimming hole was underneath a small waterfall, of a brook that ran into the ocean. The tall trees that surrounded this pool provided our group (that consisted of nan, Will's sister Amy, his Aunt and her daughter and another friend of the family - the men stayed on board to BBQ our hots and hams)with much needed shade from the hot sun. As I walked along the beach to get to this spot, I took off my sandals to cool my feet in the ocean water. This water was soooo cold and I was imagining that the fresh running water of the waterfall couldn't be much warmer. I was happily mistaken when upon setting a toe int he water that it was the perfect temperature for an outdoor swimming hole. And funny enough, the closer you got to the waterfall (I spent a lot of time sitting under it letting the water massage my back) the warmer the water got. We figured it was because the rocks the water ran over were black in colour and drew in the heat. William, wearing his little life jacket to help him float truly enjoyed his swim. He often wants to stay close to the edge (even at the swimming pool) as he finds it cold, but he was in the water the whole time. HE even wanted tog et under the waterfall with me. It was truly a memorable afternoon.
Little Mr. Manners
I am happy to report that my efforts to teach William some manners ahve so far been successful. Everything he asks for now is followed by please (which sounds like pee). He says, "juice pee, more pee, bears pee, knife pee (you get the idea). He will also say thank you (tank too) although not as frequently as please, and if he burps (or hears anyone else do so he says "cu me".
Now, we just have to wait and see if those good manners will stick around.
Talk to you soon
Dawn
