Dawn's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

June 23, 2003

Well my work for the year is officially over. There will be no more early morning calls to go to work, and all the students I have been tutoring have finished exams. I am happy to ahve no committments now, but I think I will miss working a little bit this summer. However, there will be lots to keep us busy. We will be going away quite a bit, especailly in July, and of course there is my garden....

My mother was visiting for the last 9 days. William had an absolute wonderful time with her. She invents endless games that the two of them play... One of William's favourites was castle building. He has a little boys version of a Barbie house that was Will's when he was a boy. He likes to sit on the top floor and him an mom spent hours "fixing" it up with his play tools. I was quite amused by their dialogue. As always William was not left without gifts from Grandma. My father (who was also here for a few days) bought him a little guitar that plays music, and William wakes up in the morning asking for his tar. Mom also bout him a little blow up pool. It was even warm enough one day to set it up outside, and William had a blast. He immediately wanted to strip down to nothing to get in wat he called the bath. I'm not sure why, but today we took him to the beach, and he was pointing and calling the lake water, but as soon as he saw a few young girls get in to go swimming he started calling it a bath and wanted his clothes off as well. He knows the verb swimming, but I guess we tell him to swiming the bath tub too.

I am noticing lately that William's words are becoming clearer. I mentioned before that he was building up to more two syllable words, and I noticed even more this past week. Just tonight he was getting me a "piow" (no l sound yet) for me so I could nurse him. He is also becoming more and more of a mimic everyday. He has been copying our actions for quite some time now, but he just seems to do the funniest things lately. When mom was still here she was in the living room and she just sort of quickly picked up a few pieces of clothes and brought them into the bedroom. William must have noticed even though he was playing off by himself, and he ran to the kitchen, opened the drawer where I keep the cup towels and carried them to the bedroom. He certainly always keeps us entertained.

I have been thouroughly enjoying these last few weeks. I love this time of year when it's not too hot and not too cold. We ahve been spending lots of time outdoors and I just love to take in all the sights and sounds and smells of summer. I had forgotten that we had neighbours, as all winter the streets were bare of people. I think we were the only family to brave the elements and go out for daily walks - now there are strollers everywhere! I have been even enjoying a few solitary walks by myself. We have a really great trail that wraps around two ponds just a few minutes walk from our house. It's right on the outskirts and it truly feels like you are out in the wilderness. I love the smell of the trees and the sounds of the wind rustling in the wind. IT is truly uplifting. We often go as a family ont hat same trail, but I am usually the one who carries William on my back, but lately I am finding it harder for some reason (maybe he is growing) and Will tends to complain about having to cary all that weight as well when we could just as easily go somewhere in the stroller. HOwever we do make it out there at least once a week so I am happy with that. To get to my point, the other evening as we ventured out there we got to see several pairs of beavers hard at work (9 I think in total). William was becoming a real expert at spotting thiem out in the water, and was repeating more more. Sadly they stuck to one half of the pond and his hopeful attempts to spot more beavers were not rewarded.

As one lot of company leaves another will soon be joining us. Will's mother will be here Wednesday for almost a week. William is certainly going to enjoy all the attention he's going to be getting this summer between visitors and our visits to various places as well.

Here's to the beginning of a great summer, and hoping you all are enjoying it as much as I am!
