Dawn's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

June 20, 2004

Well, it's been a while and as usual I have plenty of things to talk about but wil probably actually get to less than half of it. But here goes...

Pregnancy symptoms

I think is as good a place to start as any, now if only my unorganized self could remember all the things I want to mention here!

My belly is definately rounding out now, and I am noticeably pregnant. It's funny though cause I still don't feel pregnant. With William I was aware every minute of the day of the baby growing inside me, constantly dreaming, thinking, reading and preparing myself. Now I have to try to remember to take a few minutes in the evening to say, of yeah you're pregnant, I wonder what the little guy (or girl) is doing in there. And read... I have been very slack in this department. Unless you are talking about my string of novels I have been reading lately. Not much pregnancy related. But that's ok, I figure Jeanette has done enough reading for the both of us and can answer any question I might have. (HEE HEE) I am also suprised at how much I forget from the last time. I am constantly comparing the two pregnancies, but with a fading memory this is difficult. However, there haven't been many similarities between the tow either, so that may account for my lack of memory. One thing I do know for certain however, is that I could feel William moving and kicking a lot earlier than this one. When I was 20 weeks pregnant, we left to drive home from Thunder Bay. And I know that before we left I was calling my mother to tell her about all the activity I was feeling, for at least two weeks prior. I am almost 21 weeks now and feel barely any movement. I did feel a few tiny little kicks when I got into bed the other night, lying flat on my back and sort of pressing in with my hands, but haven't had the same result since. I think maybe the extra belly fat I have this time may be acting as a barrier of sorts from all those tiny kicks. Also I don't stop much during the day to be able to concentrate on those feelings anyway.

Another difference this time is that I seem to need a nap every afternoon. With William the first trimester was filled with exhaustion, this one not quite as much. My mornings have been filled with usual laundry, tidying caring for William and now of course gardening (of which I could prpbably write an entire entry but won't), and I have lots of energy to do these things. And the evenings are usually a walk, more outdoor activity, adn whatever else needs attention. However in between I need a nap. I don't remember napping much with William, but if by 7:00 I haven't fit in a nap I am utterly void of energy. Even if I just have a 10 minute power nap, you know the kind where your eyes are closed, but you are still aware of your surroundings, I am good to go in the evening, but I need something on a daily basis.

The other symptom I wanted to mention is the leg cramps. They have returned, though not a fierce as before. I am diligent about not pointing my toes in bed, but I always feel like I am onthe verge of one. Even during the day I can feel tightness in my calves. I started taking a calcium supplement but this hasn't really helped much. HOwever I can never remember to take all three pills per day and I don't have one with added magnesium (which I heard was an important component). We'll just have to see what happens with that.

First camping trip

Last weekend we took William on his first campling trip. We still haven't been having really warm summer weather yet (this time last year we had his little pool set up) but I will enjoy the cool weather while I still can. But we decided to go for it anyway. Lots of blankets and warm clothes were in order, but we had lots of fun regardless. Of course the one wrench in the trip was that William had diaherra that evening (upon our arrival) and I figured 4 pampers were enough, since we arrived at 5 and would be leaving early in the am. Luckily we did have 1 left over for the next morning, but I did feel bad for the little guy having to have his bum changed so many times in the chilly weather. Despite this he really enjoyed this new adventure. He helped with setting up the tent, building the campfire and pumping up the air mattress. He ate his entire hamburger, lots of fruit and yes more than his share of marshmallows. I was amazed at his interest in the campfire, as last year he was very afraid and wouldn't go near one. This year we were lucky he didn't climb in it! As soon as he saw hte marshmallows he wanted to look for a stick to roast it on, which suprised me as we have never discussed this process before. He must have seen it in a book or something though cause this was his first time... Although it was only 8 degrees Celsius that evening with all our balnkets and body heat we were quite cozy in the tent. We all went to bed at around 10 and William loved using the flashlight to look for mosquitos for daddy to rid of before we fell alseep. It was a great experience and I look forward to our next trip. My favourite moment was when we were sitting by the campfire, William trying to sit without putting his bum directly on any hard surface (sore as it was), and he pulled Will and I in for a hug and proclaimed, "we're a family".

Father's Day

Today was a great day. MY parents, brother and grandmother were here for a father's day BBQ. Will's sister was here as well but had to leave before our meal. Yes, we do enjoy a crowd. I don't usually plan much for big events, they are often like any other day at our house, alhtough we did have a gift for WIll (the standard shirt) and lots of hugs and Happy Father's Days from William. WE also had a bit of an adventure today. Last November at a silent auction we bid on a helicopter ride of our local area. WE paid $100 for it but it was worth $700 at least. I had originally wanted my dad to join us, this being Father's Day and all, but he had spent the night at his mother's and didn't get back in time. HOwever, Will and I went with my brother and his sister, and it was nice nonetheless. My mother stayed behind with William. I seriously considered taking him, but was too nervous. I also figured that he would get there and be too afraid to enter, so we left him home with my mother. WE forgot to tell her that we would likely fly over the house and to be on the lookout, but she thought of that anyway, and William was very excited to wave to his mom and dad up in the helicopter. It was neat to see our community from the air, all the people down below looking up, wondering why a helicopter was out (they are a rare sight around here). We even saw two bears and a moose. I was sick and dizzy for about an hour afterwords though. The straigt flying was ok but turning around in circles and the general smell made me queasy. I'd do it again though in a heartbeat, and it was a nice experience for Father's Day.

As usual I got to three topics and have to give up, my fingers are cramping and it's getting late. So until next time....
