Dawn's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
June 12, 2003
June has so far been zipping by just like all the other months before her. So far I have put in two new flower beds, made one other bigger, put in my peas, corn, beets and spinach, and a few scraggly looking strawberry plants that I hopes for in the years to come. My seeding attempts are also showing promise with my front lawn slowly growing in. I am in the process of trying to get my husband to build some sort of arbor or pergola on the back deck, as it gets awfully hot back there and there in no shade, so hopefully he can get to it soon er rather than later.
Happy Father's Day
This weekend of course is Father's Day. I have nothing special planned, special occasions don't usually get too much special attention at our house, but if there is any father who deserves it, it is Will. Will has grown and evolved a lot as a father since William was born. I always knew he would be an excellent dad, but he wasn't too sure at first. He was terrified to hold his little baby when he first came into the world, but after a few days he didn't want to let him go. And having to return to work out of town was very difficult for him to do. But three months later he returned and was determined never to have to go away to work again.
A typical work day at our house involves Will getting the first shower, quickly gettin ready and then caring for William while I get ready for work (this includes getting his breakfast and packing his bag for the sitters). Even on days I don't work, Will takes William out of bed to spend time with him before he goes to work. A great husband as well when he comes home for lunch, and prepares lunch not only for himself, but for William and I as well. (I think this is making me look really bad). In the evening, I prepare supper while the boys read together. Then we usually do something as a family, go for a walk or to the mall, then in the evening, bathtime is dad's responsibility. We take turns putting William to bed, but Will always loves to get him dressed into his pj's, brush his teeth and apply all his creams (for his excema and dry skin). He never forgets anything as I always fear that I would (ie/ brushing of the teeth), and he can think of nothing that he would rather be doing in place of spending time with his baby.
William truly loves his Daddy too. Whenever he hears the door open and close he rushes to the top of the stairs to great Will with a great big, "DAD-DY". He points and smiles this great big smile that is truly heartwarming. So I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish Will a Happy Father's Day, to the World's Greatest Dad!
New Developments
William is continuing to expand on his vocabulary daily. He repeats everything, and he starting to be able to say more two syllable words. His newest words have evolved from "gah" for garbage, to "garby" which he will repeat whenever he finds something on the floor. He has also progressed from "num" to "nummy, and "mom" to "mommy". I just love how he sings out to me now, it sounds so sweet to hear him repeatedly say, mommy, mommy. But somehow when he is somewhat distressed "mommy" seems that much more urgent than when he just said mom and I find myself responding more quickly to him when he says this.
I have been trying to "train" William to be a little gardener lately. He is getting pretty good at telling the difference between the peas and the weeds, and his little fingers are just the right size for plucking them up. He also loves to follow me around with his little wheelbarrow that my father made for him the last time we were home. He calls it his whebar, and is not unlike how my father says it in his true Newfoundland form.
William never ceases to amaze me with something new that he has picked up. The other day we went to pick Will up at work as we were going out to lunch for a change. William and I have visited at his office before, but only rarely and not in quite a while. However, when we pulled into the parking lot and William got a sight of the tall (5 stories is tall for our community) grey building where his father works, he said, "daddy...work". I have no idea how he remembered that!
I may have written before about how William could be difficult when we were trying to get ready to go anywhere, like in the car or the stroller. Lately, however, he is just always eager to go places and rarely fusses when we go to strap him into one of those things. I owe this to the fact that he now can understand our destinations. SO when I say we are going to the mall, and will probably see the bunny car or something like that, he runs to bring me his boots! As opposed to running away from me. Or if we are going for a walk in the stroller I tell him we are going to look for some birds and dogs. This also works like a charm. I am alot more willing to go more places to, when I can make the trip appealing for him and give him something to look forward to.
Talk to me
What are your plans for Father's Day. Will you be as slack as me and get your hubby nothing?
What things did your toddler do to amaze you? And, hwat tricks do you have for getting your toddler prepared for an outing with no fuss.
Take care
Dawn
