Dawn's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
May 5, 2004
I have so many things that I want to mention in this entry that I don't know where to begin. And as always, I am sure that I will forget half of what I wanted to record before it is all over. I have to confess, I am not an editor, I just write and enter...so many ideas get forgotten about...horrible I know. Oh well, such is life.
An end to naptime
I have to start with this first, especially since many people I know are having trouble with this issue, and I just wanted to rub it in how wonderfully William is going through this transition (hee hee)! Nap time is officially no more in our household. For a while we were having naps every third day or so, mostly for my benefit, and for a while this worked just fine. Last week however, I lay down with William every day for four days in a last ditched effort to reinstate nap time, again for my benefit, as my pregnant body was craving afternoon naps. After a little struggle William would sleep as well for 2 hours. The drawback.... sleep time was getting later and later with every day that passed. William is a late nighter anyway, usually not going to bed until 9:00pm, but with a daytime nap, there was no sign of sleep in him until 10:00pm or later. Thursday night was the last straw. after watching Survivor (which ends at 10:30 here) I went to bed to read, only to find William still wide awake and not even near sleep. His eyes did not close that night until 11:00! I decided then and there that this was not worth the daytime nap, no matter how badly I needed one. The good news is that the weather here has been wonderful (over 15 C everyday) and we have been spending lots of time outdoors - an activity that I enjoy as well as WIlliam, and it just seems so mush easier to entertain him out as opposed to in. Will lets me have an hour or so of rest when he gets home from work (if I need it - I think my energy levels have returned), and William does not seem to be upset in the least about not having a nap. He is still going strong 8:30 at night, so I guess he's OK. So I guess it is adios to our daily siesta.
Easter Egg Incident
One night last week, Will, William and I went to visit friends of ours Matt and Robin. While the men were outside she asked if William could have an Easter Egg, and I reminded her of his milk allergy. I like to think that I am very dilligent about informing people about his alleriges and what he can not eat, but it's amazing how quickly people forget, or don't realize exactly what it all means. When Matt came in he took William up to see the bunny and guinea pigs, something William looks forward to every time he visits. The rest of us were in the kitchen and William came back in, his face looked dirty, but then again it did when we arrived as well so I didn't think anything of it (shame on me for not being an expert face washer). He started saying that his tummy hurt and a second later was power puking all over the kitchen. He then said, "I don't like chocolate", and Matt said that he had given him one Easter egg (the small little ones wrapped in foil). Within 15 minutes we were going through the door, and William threw up again, all over himself and Will. He did it again when Will had him in the bath when we got home. I could not believe this reaction that he was having as he has never had anything like this happen before. And what was more interesting was that he didn't break out in any hives. I'm not sure what all this means, but it was good to find out that this could happen and I will be sure to discuss it with his doctor the next time we visit.
Other news
William loves seafood. I don't think I can say this enough. He now eats codfish more regularly than chicken. And this evening, after eating a whole fish fillet, a bowl of rice krispies, a slab of watermelon and an orange, he proceeded to eat alomst a whole lobster. It was his first time having it and Will had originally got it for his supper, but I think he only got two or three small bites for himself, with the little wolf gobbling up more than his fair share. All he kept saying was, "Mmmmm, this lobster is good!"
I don't know if I have said enough how mich I love this age. William is so smart and always surprises us with the things he can remember, say, and do etc etc. He is really into singing lately. Well not really inthe sense that you might think. He doesn't sing along to songs (in fact you would think that it is merely background noise to him and that he isn't even listening to the words), and if you try to ask him to sing a song with you he isn't really intrested, but then out of the blue he'll be off on his own and you'll hear him singing a verse that you didn't even realize he heard before. For instance there is this tape that we play in the car, mostly because he likes it and will ask for it. It's a Newfoundland band called Buddy Wasisname and the other Fellers, a cort of comedy group who also sing some lovely traditional songs. One song goes something like this (I know the tune is lost here, but in my opinion it is still worth the effort to type it):
Is you 'appy, you gotta be 'appy, you got to be 100 percent.
It's quite a catch little chorus. The rest of the lyrics are quite involved and a lot of people probably wouldn't even be able to sing along until they heard the song a hundred times, however, this is the part I heard William singing:
And then there's ugly Gord
Last year he breaks out in worts
Looks like the living corpse
Girls rather kiss his arse
Lovely, eh? Well he doesn't sing it word for word, but pretty close, and of all the verses he picks the one that is the least pleasant for a child his age to be singing! What was I thinking...
Well as usual I am tired of typing and American Idol is soon coming on, and I need to get a snack first, and I haven't said all I wanted to say. Except that I am now addicted to scrapbooking. If anyone else has discovered this passion, let me know.
