Dawn's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

March 13, 2004

After reading of tales of melting snow, crocuses making an appearance and lots of sun, this week here seems even more dismal. Not that I don't enjoy the snow, but I am starting to look forward to Spring. I have even taking down all my snowman paraphenelia, and let it snow signs. As it stands right now, we have more snow than any winter I can remember for years, with banks outside our house well above our heads, and it is still snowing today. We have two large basement windows on the front of our house. The tops of which are about neck height in summer...I have to dig them out the other day as they were completly covered in. They are now in a hole surrounded by snow, but at least some light can get down now. There is no where left to shovel the snow either. Last Sunday after our biggest storm of the season, we have to get a loader come in and push our hills back as they were getting too high to scoop the snow over. NOt to mention the snow in the driveway for our basement apartment was five feet high as it is an area that gets a lot of drifting. Yikes! At least William loves the snow. He will play out there for hours with us as we shovel or pull him around in the sled.

Well, enough talk about snow. I will be leaving it behind for a few days next week when I make my trip to Arizona. I certainly looking forward to a break in this winter weather!

William never ceases to entertain us and give us lots of love. He is turning out to be quite an affectionate little child. Always wanting and needing hugs and kisses that we are always too willing to give. His appetite has increased as has the variety of foods that he will eat. Just last night he polished off a big plate full of salmon, and a big bowl of broccoli. HE's been enjoying his soy milk as well, though I'm afraid it is chocolate soy milk for the most part. Vanilla in his cereal, but he won't usually drink that flavour. He is really becoming more independent as well. Often going into his room alone to play, or downstairs in the basement. It certainly gives me more time to do more chores, whether or not I do them is another story though! We recently built him a window seat in his berdoom. I am very pleased with how it turned out. We took his crib mattress, which was never used anyway, put it on a piece of plywood and covered it in this nice dark denim material. Will then attached it to the wall and put two legs on the front made of 2x4's. William loves to take his leap pad in there, or just lie around, or sometimes he sets up his tea set on the window sill and has a little tea party. I love sneaking up on him when he's in there and watching him play through the slightly open door when he doesn't know I am watching him. I really love this age, watching their play, listening to their stories, songs and wonderings about the world around them.

William has also learned to go to sleep without anyone lying down with him. Well, at least when Will puts him to bed (as such that is now his job!) Will just lays him down, tucks him in, and that's it. If I try it's a different story. I have to lie down for a cuddle (although I do love to do this) and he will get out of bed several times before he stays in and goes to sleep. Although if this is all there is to complain about in life, then it really isn't much. Especially considering there was a time not to long ago when bedtime was a real struggle. Naps are another sotry though. I am able to get him for a nap everynow and then (and Will was successful today) but some days is almost impossible, it's not even worth the effort.

I am still contemplating the home pre school thing, although now there is something else to think about, which I will get to in a minute. So any input on what you would look for in a pre school s still appreciated.

And now, for the news. WE haven't told any family members yet (well I have told my mom but Will doesnt' know that) as he is waiting to tell his mother when she comes to help with William while I am away, and only a few friends have been told. But I am happy to say that I am pregnant with child number 2! My last period was January 23rd, and I did a home pregnancy test at the end of February. It was a faint line, but I also had a blood test that was positive. It doesn't seem quite real yet, I have had no symptoms to date, although I have been guilty of putting the tv on for William once or twice this week so I could have a little nap. Thankfully no nausea of yet, and I hope none is to come! I had my first doctors appointment yesterday and he said I was due around the 30th of October. It should be an exciting few months.
