Another wonderful week of toddlerhood has passed and here I am again to share some of this week's happenings with you.
*Going to sleep without a peep*
As you may know, William has been sharing our bed since day one. My husband love this experience and plan to continue with this sleeping arrangement until William is at least two years old at which time we may consider other options. However, there have been a couple of concerns along the way, such as, will William ever learn how to fall asleep on his own? (This one probably plays on my mind the most). Lately, a sort of 'problem' that we have been having is the fact that William squirms and wiggles and clims off and on the bed and fights sleep for 45 minutes to an hour. A routine that either myself or my husband has to go through each night, and one I face with every naptime. A routine that exhausts and sometimes frustrates us as it gets later and later in the evening and still no sign of sleep.
Our solution was to try and put William down in the playpen in our roon (the crib was long stored away). And try William in it for his naptimes. The first day he cried off and on for about 7 or 8 minutes (My limit was going to be 15 minutes). THen the next day he stopped crying as soon as I closed the bedroom door. We were amazed at how easily he seemed to accept this new sleeping arrangement!
With this new success during his daytime nap, we decided to try it at night as well, but only until he wakes up at which time we still bring him in our bed. I am now very happy to report that he goes down in his crib and falls to sleep without so much as a whimper of resistance! Let me tell you that erases all guilty feelings I was having about doing this, and he can go to sleep earlier, and we have an extra hour to ourselves in the evening to do whatever we want......which always seems to be housework!
*Pedeatrician report*
William had a follow up appointment this week regarding his allergies to wheat, milk, and eggs. He will be having another test in June to see if his allergies have cleared (although recently we have been giving him wheat with no problems, and the Dr, said it was ok to keep doing so - this sure takes a lot of pressure off of what he can and cannot eat). The dr. also make some comment to the effect that if he doesn't outgrow his milk allergy I can always continue breastfeeding until he goes to school if I want. I am not too sure how I feel about that one.
We also learned that William is now 22.5 lbs and is 32.5 inches long. His weight really hasn't changed much since about 11 months, but he definately is getting taller...
*Ever growing vocabulary*
For the most part most of William's words start with B or M. For instance mo can mean more, remote, or mark depending on the context and ba can mean bath, Beth, bottle, etc. His understanding is amazing and his memory is as sharp as a tack. The other day I was showing him a photo album, and pointing out the people in the pictures. Not really paying too much attention to each person though. At the end of the book was a letter I had tucked away that my cousin Julia had sent me last Christmas (she's 8). SO I sang the Blue's Clue's mail song and read it to William. Saying, "we just got a letter from our friend Julia". With that he turned to the beginning of the album found a group photo taken at my baby shower and pointed to Julia saying "Jul". I guess every mother thinks she has the smartest baby in the world!!!
We are here at Nanny's house for the weekend and William is having a blast with all his relatives, staying up late, and having "un mor" corn puff.
Thanks again for reading.
