Christy's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

March 8, 2003

The weights are slowly being lifted off of our chests!

- We hired TWO housekeepers! And one could run the inn by herself! Major stress reducer there!

- We hired a mover who will PACK US!

- Our financing has been approved!

- Our closing was pushed back 2 weeks, so I have two extra weeks to get ready.

What a blessing these things have been! My official leave date is 3/24. I'm making slow progress packing some stuff that I want to, but I don't *have* to do it, so that helps a ton. Things are moving forward. By this time next month, I'll be getting settled in our new home!

Miss Alyss is taking her first steps. DH says that she took 4 steps in a row tonight while I was at a wedding (go figure!) She had her 15 month appointment yesterday (although she's 16 months old) and didn't even cry when she got her shots! She was so intent on watching the nurse that she was distracted from the pain I guess!! LOL She weighs 21 lbs, 6 oz. and is 30.5 inches long. 25% for length, and 10% for weight. She definitely has her daddy's build. She can put away some food, so I know that she's just gaining on her own curve - she's always been on the low end of the charts anyway. I tried to show the ped. how she will walk if you hold her hand, but she refused to cooperate AT ALL. She crawled all over the office doing her one legged crab crawl and had all of the nurses laughing. But pull up and walk? NO WAY! Dr. Lehman says that Alyssa will walk by herself when she is ready - and only then. She seems to be a but stubborn in this regard, because she is perfectly able to walk. She just WON'T! Soon me thinks...

We did a very difficult thing this week. We took our dog, Patches, to the Humane Society. We had her for six years and it broke my heart to get rid of her. She hates car rides, strangers, change - everything that this move involves. It is a "no-kill shelter", so I am hopeful that she'll find a loving forever-home. But I am still sick about it. We are keeping Anderson - who is a very social guy that loves car rides. He'll do well as an inn-dog. We are also keeping our three cats (1 indoor, 1 outdoor, 1 indoor/outdoor!) I took them in for rabies shots this week and gave them their other shots myself. WHOOO HOOO! :)

Some other mommies and I started a new online board called "The Mommy Cafe"! I think it is going to be a fun place online. If anyone wants to pop in, the addy is http://pub7.ezboard.com/bamazingnovemberplaygroup2001 We're all of one week old, but we have 19 members so far!

Does anyone have any road-trip-with-a-toddler tips they'd like to share with me? Or how about traveling-with-animals tips? Any recommended hotels that are pet friendly? I'm going across I-40. I had heard that Drury Inns were good, but they aren't along my route. I hate hotels. I think it goes with being an innkeeper, KWIM? I'm also begging for any moving tips that you have! HELP! LOL

I'll try to let everyone know when I'm settled, so don't worry if you don't hear from me until after the first of April or so. I'll try to update, but can't promise anything...

Hug those babies!

Until next time,
Christy and Alyssa Brooke 11/5/01
