February 5, 2003
15 months old :)
I was thinking today how 2/5 is the date I used for my lmp while PG!! That seems like forever and a day ago - and it has been 2 years.
MISS ALYSS
Alyssa still refuses to walk, although I believe she is getting closer because she is gradually realizing that she can stand by herself. She'll be cruising the coffee table and then let go and stand there for a few seconds. Then continue cruising. Silly girl. She loves her bath time and is getting really good at her stacking cup toys. She is still trying to figure out what goes where in her shape sorter, but she’s getting there. I always say “All Done” and do the sign for it before I take Alyssa out of the tub. She has never once tried to do the sign, but the other night she did exclaim “Aw Duh!” (I’m fairly certain that meant “all done”.)
Alyssa has taken to SCREECHING when she wants attention or something to eat - or ANYTHING. It is very annoying and hurts my ears in a bad way. Right now I’m just trying to correct it with “NO” and a swat if she continues. I’ll let ya’ll know how that goes!! *grin*
THE TRIP
We flew to California on Jan. 24 for an inn-keeping conference. My mom flew down to watch Alyssa for a couple of days. Let me start by reminiscing about how easy it was to fly with the 6 month old Alyssa. She didn’t fuss - slept nearly the whole way. Fast forward to flying with the 15 month old Alyssa. Picture being delayed an hour out of Atlanta (sitting on the plane of course), Alyssa screeching throughout the flight. Connecting in Denver with just 10 minutes to spare. Alyssa screeching through that flight, too. The flight home was pretty much the same. ICK. I’m thankful I’ll be driving next time (never thought I’d say that!) The conference was okay. I think the SouthEast Regional Conference is much better. It wasn’t worth almost $300 per person. We did get to get a treatment at the spa. I got a mud wrap and Earl got a stone massage. Yum. And we won a Napa Valley Wine Train excursion and gourmet dinner. So that will be fun (although I don’t drink wine LOL). But other than that, the conference was a bust.
I so enjoyed staying on the property though. It was so quiet and peaceful. I’m excited to get in the garden and get the cottages completed. We met with a local reporter and she didn’t waste any time finishing the article. Take a look at http://www.willitsnews.com/display/inn_news/News/news01.txt Not bad in my opinion.
PROGRESS
We’ve ordered our sheets, purchased fabric for the comforters, received our robes, gift shop inventory, stained-glass lamps, silver serving pieces… I went a bit crazy at the Atlanta Gift Mart last month LOL I also found the best deal on sheets at www.overstock.com! 400 thread count sheets for $69.99 - and I got a discount as a business! $58 a set for king jacquard 400 tc sheets! What a deal! Now I need to find a mangle. What is a mangle you ask? Your mom or grandma probably had one! They are automatic ironers used a lot in the 1940’s and 50’s. I am hunting for one so if you know of one for sale, please let me know!! I’m not hand ironing king sized sheets!!
MY NEW PURCHASE
This was NOT an impulse buy. We’ve been looking at making this purchase for a year or so. I got an embroidery machine! And it is a sewing machine, too! It is made by Husqvarna-Viking and is the Iris model. I LOVE IT. I actually made a sundress for Alyssa last night and appliquéd a heart on the front. Very cute. I’ve had the stuff to make it for months, but I hate my old sewing machine. This one has all the bells and whistles. I also embroidered a dragon fly and “Beside Still Waters Farm” on some shirts for us to wear to the conference. We were stylin’ *grin*
THE HEARTBREAKING PART…
We have to leave our church. Obviously. DH and I both absolutely LOVE Forrest Hills and cannot stand the thought of leaving. Unfortunately, there is no choice! Several months ago I contacted a church in Willits and I have corresponded with the pastor since then. I really feel that God has directed us to this particular church. We attended a service while we were out there and I loved the pastor and congregation - unfortunately there are maybe 10 people in the whole church and they are meeting in the back of the Country Mall (looks like a prison fellowship in a foreign country LOL). I know the church would grow by leaps and bounds if they had a church building. We have money to tithe. I feel that we are supposed to buy the land or the building for them. I am praying that DH will agree if this is what we are to do. They also need a pianist - unfortunately I don’t play… I'm excited to think that God must have big plans for us but I still find my heart clinging to the people at Forrest Hills.
LESS THAN 5 WEEKS TO GO!
I’ll be hitting the road on or about March 10th. (Yes, I AM driving across the entire continent with my child, cats and dog(s). I am desperately looking for a home for Patches but have been unsuccessful thus far) I have just started packing and have tons to go. We haven’t hired a mover yet either! EEK! Please pray that I get motivated soon! I can’t believe this is finally happening. It seems like we’ve waited so long. But God’s timing is perfect. We have certainly learned that through this all.
Thank you for reading! Please keep us in your prayers and I will try to keep my diary up to date!
Until next time,
Christy and Alyssa Brooke 11/5/01
