Christy's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

January 1, 2001

Sorry for the delay in posting this entry. Things are still a little unsettled - which isn't surprising considering it's been only four weeks since moving into the house. DH got here about two and a half weeks ago and he's having a hard time adjusting. He can't seem to figure out what to do with himself. I keep saying "Find a hobby and enjoy the downtime - it'll never be like this again", but he seems aimless nonetheless...

Alyssa is walking all over the place and is into everything. She thinks it is such fun to take things out of the trash and leave them around the house. Then she takes important things, like Mommy's car keys, and puts them INTO the trash. Such fun! (Except for MOMMY - ahhh. The joys of motherhood!) I think she's gotten a tad taller, but she's still skinny as a rail, for which I am thankful. My fingers are still crossed that she has Earl's active metabolism as opposed to my sluggish one. She's wearing all sorts of sizes, but I believe she is actually an 18 month (with quite a bit of room.) She still wears most of her 12 month things and a couple of 6-12 month rompers. I put 18 and 24 month dresses on her because you really can't tell how long they're supposed to be!

Alyssa is finally beginning to follow verbal instruction, but most of her words are still jibberish. If you say it's time to go "bye bye" or "night night" she waves goodbye. She'll retrieve a book from across the room or take something to the garbage (again, her favorite past-time!) and I'm sure she understands a whole lot more than I give her credit for. She also is a little escape artist. I've caught her at the top of the steps twice in the past week. I can't fit a gate at the bottom, so I'm just going to have to be extra careful watching her. It's kind of funny (kind of NOT!) but she doesn't try to come DOWN the steps. This is due to a fall last week. I didn't even know she was up there! I heard her start screaming and I found her with her hands on the fourth step down and her body above her laying on the other three steps. She must have started down and slipped. I think she's afraid to come down them now - and I hope she is! Up is one thing, down is another thing entirely.

Let's see? What are big issues right now? I have no friends. This is a major issue. I'm not sure how to make them. Our church - while I love the people, it is SO SMALL. We're going to try to remedy this by going to a larger church on Sunday and Wednesday nights. Hopefully this will help the friend category as well. I have about 15 lbs to lose that I put back on since December. I would really like to have another baby in the near future, so this is a problem. That brings us to the next problem. Earl commented this week that he is "too old to be a father." I quickly answered "Too late, you're already a father." I guess he's trying to allude to not wanting any more children. This may be because Alyssa has hit the temper tantrum phase, but it is NOT something I am at all open to hearing. At ALL. I can only wait and pray. I know he's in a rough spot right now emotionally, so I'm hoping that's all that it is. He loves Alyssa to pieces and since he made that comment, she's been being super-sweet to him. Surely he'll change his mind, right?

As far as the business is concerned, everything has been at a standstill because of rain. It has finally finished raining! We have one more meeting with the county this week and things will hopefully get moving. Our opening is looking more like it'll be late July/early August instead of June 1st, but that's fine. We'll get there.

Earl and I spent all day Friday building a house for our two baby goats. We also have 10 baby chicks that we have to build housing for sometime in the next four weeks. And lots of landscaping things to do. Lots to do in general!

That's all for now - hopefully I can post another update next week :)
