Ahhhh, the whirlwind of packing, panicking and chaos has found me! :-)
Karl and I found a house in the Portland area and will be moving at the end of the month. I gave my notice at my job yesterday, notified day care and then went home to stare at the mountain of stuff in my house that I have to pack. Combining households will be a challenge. First off, we both have "Alli rooms" at our separate houses: beds, toys etc. We have some duplicate toys and two beds to contend with. Speaking of beds, we have five beds between us. What in the world are we going to do with five beds!!??! :-0
This leaves me feeling very happy, but a bit nervous at the same time. We have never lived together, and even though we'll find our way through the adjustments that this will bring, I'm still nervous! It is obvious that we've done things a bit backwards: Had the child first, broke up, did the single parent dance, matured in different ways and then marriage! I've been thinking about how to help Alexandria adjust to this big change. They have books about having your parents in different places, having one parent, having step-parents etc...but where's the book called, "No More 'Daddy's House' or 'Mommy's House': It's an ‘Our House’ Now"???
I'm dreading the day care search. We have been very lucky with the wonderful place she's at now. I just hope we can find an equal comparison, without the 18 month waiting list! Oh, for a miracle …
On the pet front, Alexandria and our new cat have this very funny, love/hate relationship. Zoey the cat is very tolerant of Alli's persistant petting, scratching and in the face questions and ponderings: "What doin' Zoey?" "Mommy! Zoey chillin.'" (Yes, she's picked up slang already!) "Zoey cleanin'/scratchin' herself!" And on and on … When we get home in the evenings, Zoey stretches and gets her 'oh-great-the-kid-is-home-to-bug-me' look and braces for the initial onslaught of Alli lovin'. Yet, she's never far from Alli's side. Alli freaks if the cat rubs up against her toys, but she'll call for her if she's not RIGHT NEXT to her while she's playing. Surprisingly, Alli is great about watching her. She quickly informs me when Zoey needs more food or water, and drags me to the litter box when she makes a mess. Even Zoey can't get a break from trying to scratch the furniture. Alli scolds Zoey in her best mommy voice and chases after her.
Hope everyone is happy and healthy!
~Chandra
