Ah, the whirlwind of the holidays and the craziness in my personal life had me neglecting this diary! There is so much that has happened this past month!
Let's see. First, Alexandria and I spent a week and half either at my mom's house or at Alli's dad's place. I felt like all I did was drive back and forth between the two houses! Alexandria cleaned up like any other first grandchild, first child, first great-grandchild etc. She ended up having three Christmases between all the family gatherings. This year was so much different than the last ... she had the concept of it all. But the strange thing is that she had an unique view on the whole Santa issue.
From Alexandria's point of view, Santa DOES NOT and WILL NOT bring presents. Frosty the Snowman will. She's petrified of the thought of Santa, or the site of him in the mall, but she enjoys looking at books about him and such. If someone had mentioned Santa coming at Christmas, Alli would quickly correct them by saying Frosty was coming.
We had a fantastic holiday with family. This Christmas was special because my family was finally together ... not just physically, but everything else that mattered. My parents are attempting a reconciliation, and so far, things are going alright. I don't know how I feel about it ... just want my parents happy. Alexandria was stoked to have both of her grandparents around to spoil her. One of the best mental "snapshots" I have from the holidays was finding Alli sandwiched between my parents on her bed, and them reading her bedtime stories.
The drive home on New Year's was interesting. My car was packed solid with our Christmas goodies, one cranky, sleep-deprived toddler, one squalling cat (that we inherited) in its carrier and one goldfish swimming in its makeshift bowl (a sports bottle) on my front seat. That was one LONG drive home. :-)
