Chandra's Diary Entries

December 1, 1999

Hello! Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! My Thanksgiving was a little weird for me this year. Alexandria was with her dad and all my family was either out-of-state or out-of-town. The holidays have always been a big family affair and to not be with them is strange. I guess I'll just have to get used this holiday business without my daughter. I ended up going to a friend's parents' house for dinner and had a very nice time. It was even relaxing!

My daughter is nicknamed "The Piranha" or "Hannibal the Cannibal." Ever since she was about 7 or 8 months old, she's been biting people, mainly me. Well, most people, myself included, passed it off as teething. OK. She has all her teeth now. Even both sets of molars! Why is she biting people? I get incident reports three to five times a week (the record is three in one day) from her daycare about her biting the other children or the teachers. Just last week, she bit the teacher's arm through the shirt and still broke the skin. Completely unprovoked! She usually bites the other kids because they have a toy that she wants and they won't give it to her, and in some cases, when she's hungry. This weekend, while I was lying on the floor playing with her, she just leaned forward and got a nice mouthful of my chest, right under my collarbone! Then, she wouldn't let go! I was pushing on her forehead and even trying to plug her nose so she would have to open her mouth to breathe...but no avail. When she finally let go, I already had tears in my eyes b/c it hurt so bad. I didn't yell at her, but I was very mad and firm with her so she ended up crying. Now, I have this nice big bruise with teethmarks to compliment the black-n-blue coloring. Joy. I don't know how to make this stop. Her teachers at daycare are doing all that they can, as am I. Nothing is working though. Do you any of you have ideas? I'm desperate here! I'm having a Parent-Teacher conference (Aack!) next week concerning this matter and would love some input.

On a nicer note, Alexandria is also quite the kissing bandit. She kisses everything: The trees, the leaves, her stuffed animals, me *grin*, her chair, the window, etc. I've noticed that she's taken to putting her dolls and stuffed animals to sleep. She puts them on the floor, throws one of her blankets over each one and then kisses them on the head. Very cute.

It's dead week for classes ... meaning finals are next week. Work is really stressful and some people aren't being supportive of my going to school. I don't understand that. Gee, am I feeling stressed? Just a tad! Maybe if I click my heels three times it will over with already.

That's all for this week! Have a good one.

Chandra
