Chandra's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

October 4, 2000

ChandraI'm at a happy place right now. Everything seems to be going smoothly (now that I've said that, watch things fall apart!). I haven't felt this much sense of peace in a while. I know that it may be short-lived, but I intend to enjoy it while it's here. There is nothing extreme that is causing this feeling, nothing real out of the ordinary. Things just seem to be on an even keel.

Alexandria is growing up before my eyes. She had a little lesson about death this weekend. Her beloved fish, Black, was found floating on his side one morning.

"Alli, Black is dead."

She leaned in for a closer look and wrinkled her brow. "Black dead?"

"Yes, honey....he went to fishy Heaven."

"Feed him!"

"He doesn't need to eat anymore."

After a bit more of my muddling around the subject, I told her how we bury a fish. Off to the porcelain fish Heaven we go!! At this point, she got excited. I could understand her excitement! I mean, this would be the first legitimate time she could toss something into the toilet bowl!! Oh, the power...the freedom! :-)

I held the bowl and helped her scoop up the now stiff Black. She dumped him into the toilet with great flourish and promptly flushed him away. Immediately, she ran to find Gish, the sole survivor of her fish. "I bury Gish!!!!!"

Ever since this weekend, I've had to fend off Alli from Gish's bowl. Little does that fish know that his days are numbered, ...if Alli has anything to do with it. That fish has survived her tiny little grip when she stuck her hand in his bowl when she was not even a year old and actually managed to GRAB him. I caught her in the act and Gish midway to her mouth. I don't know who was more startled, her, Gish or me?

On another note, I began my very LAST term of college this month! Only nine more weeks until I AM DONE!! :-)

Here is a current pic of Alli I wanted to share. She is jumping on her bed, wearing her "hat."

Hope everyone is happy and healthy,

Chandra
