Greetings!

Here are a few snippets of recent conversations between Alexandria and me:

Everyday, I ask Alli how her day was and what she did. For the past month or so, this has been the exchange between us.

Mom: What did you do today, Alli?
Alli: I played with Tom and Clea (daycare buddies).
Mom: Did you have fun?
Alli: (frowning) Tom bit my hand!
Mom: He did!?
Alli: Alli cried (makes crying motions). Cindy (teacher) kissed my hand.
Mom: Is it all better now?
Alli: Yeah! (Pause.) I pushed Tom!

Last night, I was getting Alli's dinner ready and she pointed to her Elmo bib.

Alli: I want Ellllllmmmmmmoooo!!!
Mom: You do? Why do you want Ellllllllmmmmmooooo?
Alli: Elmo cool, Mommy!

Alli and I were sitting on my front porch one evening after work, watching the neighbors' dog run around on their lawn.

Alli: Alli sing song, Mommy!
Mom: What song do you want to sing?
Alli: Icky Bicky.
Mom: Itsy Bitsy Spider?
Alli: Yeah!
Mom: (singing) Itsy, Bitsy Spider crawled up the water...
Alli: No MOMMY! Alli do it!
Mom: OK. (Pause, then starts singing again) Up the waterspout, down came the rain and ... .
Alli: No Mommy sing! (At this point, turns her back to me and starts singing). Icky Bicky 'pider up otter pout ... .

This conversation was between Alli and her fish, Black (she named him, not me!). She did a face plant on the front steps and ended up with a nasty looking bump and bruise on her chin.

Alli: Alli fall down stairs! (putting her chin right up against the bowl).
Black: (silence).
Alli: It hurt really really bad!
Black: (a few open/close motions of the mouth).
Alli: Mommy kiss it!
Black: (more silence).
Alli: Alli put ice on it! (Actually, it was a frozen burrito because Mom didn't have any ice!).
Black: (still more silence).
Alli: Bye Black! (kisses the fish bowl and puts her "ice" back on her chin).

On a more serious note, last week a friend from my Moms group gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, Ryan. Shortly after birth, they discovered a major heart defect.Yesterday, Ryan underwent open heart surgery and now seems to be holding his own. My heart and prayers go out to Cathy, Jim, their son, Jake and baby Ryan.
