Our vacation wasn't one of the better ones. Top Ten reasons we shouldn't have gone on vacation:
- I got sick the day our plane landed.
- Alli was a terror in the airport and only mildly subdued on the plane. She stuck her raisins between her toes and tried to feed the passenger sitting next to her.
- Alli was scared to death of the pool. Usually she loves water and only lets me carry her in the water for a few minutes. Screamed when she saw my dad jump off the diving board.
- I hardly saw my dad or my sister.
- It was so hot in CA that my skin was melting. Alli's new phrase: "Alli hot, mommy"
- Trying to play the piano for church on three hours of sleep and being sick isn't a great thing.
- A truck ran over my head ... or least that's what it felt like Sunday morning. I went out to a late dinner with some friends after putting Alli down for the night. She ended up waking with one of her night terrors and my mom/sister couldn't calm her. My friends and I throw our dinners in to-go boxes and race home. I was feeling guilty for going out and found her WIDE awake and so keyed up that she didn't go back down until 3:30 AM. While I was wrestling her back to bed, my two friends ate their dinner by candlelight out on deck. Ahhh.
- Forgot my homework that was due the day I was to go home. Sent a groveling letter to professor ... hate that.
- Alli perfected the art of throwing a tantrum. I perfected the art of ignoring them.
- Learned my parents are splitting up. In fairness to them, this will be a better thing for them. I hope they find the happiness they both deserve.
The vacation wasn't a total waste. There were some good points.
- Alli can be amused for a long period of time by a fly. In a rare quiet moment, I found her sitting on the floor, legs straight out, and munching on raisins in front of the sliding door. She was talking and waving to fly buzzing around the door. "Hi bee (her word for any insect)...bye bee..what bee doin?"
- The lawn sprinkler is a good substitute for the pool. Alli ran around the yard in her bikini, chasing her ball in and out of the water.
- I spent a lot of time with my mom.
- Watched my daughter squeal in delight in seeing "Sissy" (my sister's new nickname by Alli) and her "hamma" (my mom), and run to my best friend, Jess, in an excited greeting. Considering she hardly knows Jess, this surprised everyone in the room. Jess was delighted!
- Alli kissed my Dad's mule, or not-the-horse ... what my mom calls it ... and fed the horse.
- Water+paintbrush+Alli= Cheap entertainment. Alli painted half the deck. My dad was probably wishing it was real paint!
- Groveling to my professor worked. (see #8 above)
- I got away from the oh-so-fun atmosphere of work!
- Spent six whole consecutive days with my daughter.... A rarity.
- Scared the neighbors by lounging in the pool in a bikini during Alli's nap. :-)
Hope everyone is happy and healthy!
