Greetings!Alli and I are going on a vacation to the beach for Memorial Day weekend. I was surprised to find out that nobody was using the beach house and jumped at the chance to spend some time AWAY from home, school and regular activities. I'm praying for decent weather. Heck, it doesn't even have to be sunny, just no rain would be great! I can't wait to let Alli loose on the sand and watch her go. The last time we were at the beach, she had just started walking and wasn't too stable in the sand. At least she didn't go very far, very fast. This time, however, could be a whole new story. My relatives used to keep this 30-foot leash to tie their dog to the back porch while outside...maybe it's still around? :-) I dug out all of Alli's sand buckets, toys and the like and as soon as she saw them, she got all excited. She knows that those toys = sand. And my girl loves sand... still eats it, in fact.
On the mommy front, I'm finding it easier to talk about things not related to my child or raising her. It's sometimes hard because my life revolves around her at this point. If the topic wasn't related to the changing of diapers, the discussion of feeding, poop or daycare, I didn't seem to have much to contribute to a conversation. I was uncomfortable talking to many people unless they were moms, or wanted to talk about the mommy thing. Now, since I feel like my world is expanding into the realm of school, spending more time with friends and such, I don't have mommy brain as bad. I mean, I could always talk anyone's leg off about Alli if given the opportunity! :-)
Take my weekends "off" for an example. For about a day and a half, I have the time to do whatever I want, whenever I want and take off the mom hat for a bit. Sometimes, I find myself forgetting that I'm not just a mom. This weekend, I let myself relax a bit. Didn't race around trying to run errands in a frantic attempt to pack as much as I can in a day... didn't watch a single Elmo or Blue's Clues video, or listen to Elmo in the car. Ahhhhh.... I lounged out in the sun, read a bit, washed my car, did a smidge of homework, went for a walk, ate my lunch at the Farmer's Market in 15 minutes instead of 1, lounged in the sun some more, played MY music really loud in the car and sang to my heart's content. Funny thing, though, is that while I am doing some of these things, I think how Alli would enjoy the same things such as helping me wash the car. She'd drench herself, the house, me, the yard, the dog etc., or just plain enjoy being outside in gorgeous weather. I would be lying if I said I didn't look forward to the weekends that Alli is with her other parent. As much I as like my time alone, I love picking her up on Sunday afternoon and grabbing her up in a big hug, covering her with kisses. Plus, I love the way she reacts when she sees me! What a greeting! :-)
Alli is fascinated with my "tee-tees", both of our "butts", "pee-pees" and "Alli poop" (translation: she tooted). Oh, the bathroom humor has started! Just waiting for the day she says something to embarrass me while in public. Can't wait!
Hope everyone is happy and healthy!
Till next time, Chandra ~+~Alexandria
