Chandra's Diary Entries

May 12, 2000

Many people ask me why I'm busting my buns off going to school fulltime and working so much, all the while raising Alexandria in a place without nearby family. Well, here's my answer:

I've been given the opportunity by my boss to take advantage of where I'm working. Since I'm an employee of the University of where I'm also a student, I get a very reduced rate for tuition. To NOT take advantage of it would be stupid. My boss has been very gracious to allow me to attend school fulltime, something rare for department heads to allow on campus. My schedule is always flexible around my classes and I am able to not work 40 hours a week which was what I was originally hired to do. My boss has taken some flak for letting me do this, and some people have wondered what I've done to get this...you get the picture. However, I'm very grateful of him and of the others I work with that have supported me in my degree quest. I feel I need to do what I can, and as fast as I can, to get done with school. When I started last fall, the end seemed light years away. Now, I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Just this week, I pushed my luck and requested more time for classes during the summer so that I would graduate at the end of the year. Much to my surprise, I got the go-ahead. So, this summer is going to be jam-packed brain squeeze and the fall will be an easy term of credit fillers like Underwater Basket Weaving (not really, but you get the picture). Graduation date: Dec. 8th, Baby! Whoo-hoo! Then, I'm going on a long vacation.

This weekend my parents are visiting and for Mother's Day, my grandparents and other relatives will be congregating at my house for a BBQ. Looking forward to spending time with my family. Hope everyone's Mother's Day was joyful and relaxing.

As always, Chandra~~+~~Alexandria
