May 8, 2000
I've finally risen from the dead. I had been sick for about two weeks with a stomach bug that I couldn't shake and if I had to stare into the toilet bowl one more day....yech! Alexandria was so confused by the upheaval (no pun intended) of her daily routine and a mom that was either lying on the couch or racing into the bathroom. She would stand in the doorway of the bathroom, crying her eyes out and saying, "Momma, up!" I would have about a 15-minute timeframe where I'd feel half-human so I could drive her to daycare. At least there she wouldn't feel neglected and I could sleep. Some days, I slept 18 hours! When I was resting on the couch, she'd climb up next to me for a cuddle and she'd stroke my face. The poor child watched a lot of videos while I was sick. She sure didn't mind! TV overload! This weekend, the sun was out and we spent the time outside. In the morning, we went to the local farmer's market for fruit and flowers. It's a big excitement for Alli because of all the dogs that always seem to be present and a park right across the street. She LOVES the park. Getting her to leave is a challenge. The outing wiped her out and she was zonked almost as soon I started the car. After her nap and lunch, we attended a renaissance faire on campus. Alli marveled at the jousting and dancing, all the people and MORE dogs and few random topless/naked people making a statement. She noticed the latter and pulled my shirt up as if to say, "Yep, Momma has those, too!" Aren't kids just lovely sometimes?! :-) We ate a bunch of good food and she danced to the music and chased some other kids. As my dad would say, it was a "Five Star Day."
On Sunday, I said goodbye to a dear friend moving to Indiana. She has a daughter a little bit younger than Alli and we've been friends since the good 'ole wild pre-baby days. She and her husband threw a big, crazy costume party a few weekends ago and I was able to go! It was a big reunion of sorts. Some of the people there I haven't really seen since having Alli and we've drifted our different ways. It was so wonderful to see everyone and let loose! It felt fabulous to have a night with good friends, good food, good costumes, good drinks, good times, good music.... Shall I go on?
Now, it's back to the grind. School is done in a month (already!!???) and I have a ton of work to do to keep up and catch up from when I was ill. And the juggling is on....
