Chandra's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

April 12, 2000

Every time Alli spends the night with the other half of the parent unit (about 2-3x's/month), I have every intention of getting a huge number of things done. It ranges from doing homework, douching out the bathroom and kitchen, laundry, running errands that are not too fun with a toddler, getting a hair cut, napping, seeing friends etc. OK, I'm lucky to get even half of that done. I'm usually overwhelmed from the desire to do absolutely nothing and to completely veg out. However, this weekend, Alli and I had an adventure at Home Depot before she left. I let her pick out all the different colors of flowers ... and I noticed when we got home that she was definitely on a red/fuchsia kick. We bought enough flowers for our yard to fill up the trunk and half of the back seat, but this was after she launched her Elmo into the middle of rows bushes and trees in the nursery. Took me FOREVER to find him! She also threw Elmo in planters, other people's carts, bedding plants etc. While I was planting the flowers at home, she kept herself entertained with a little shovel, dirt and some mangled weeds she yanked up from the yard.

Even though I miss her like crazy when she's gone, I did enjoy the time to myself. I splurged on a big dinner of Dungeness crab, wine, salad and bread and ate it on my deck in total quiet. And I didn't have to share my dinner! LOL I slept a solid 9 1/2 hrs in the same position, something I don't think I've done since before getting pregnant! In the morning, I made myself a gourmet breakfast and read the Sunday paper in its entirety in one sitting. It's funny, when your kid (s) are hanging on your leg, flushing their toys down the toilet and emptying trash onto the kitchen floor all at once, you crave a moment's peace, but as soon as you have it, you're missing them. At least, that's how I find myself. One of things I'm grateful for now is being able to count on the time to myself. Yeah, I'm glad that Alli is building a relationship with her dad and they're spending time together etc.... but I'm grateful for the time alone. I know many mothers don't get that too often, married or not.

As for my little one...Alli is now "Mama Alli" to her baby. This baby has the complete setup (thanks HAMMA!) of bottles, diapers, stroller, a paci, clothes, bath set, etc. She's quite the little mother. You should see how she puts it to sleep. She places the doll facedown, finds a blanket to cover it and starts patting (it's really whacking if you ask me!) the doll's back while singing a little song of "seep, seep, seep."

We have a wrestling match this weekend, er, I mean portraits. It used to be so easy to get pictures taken when she was an infant!! I don't even ask for a smile for the camera. Staying in one spot for a split second with no tears would be great! :-)

Hope everyone is happy and healthy!
