Candace W.'s Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

October 27, 2002

It’s time for a toddler update! I feel really awful, since I always manage to find the time to update my PG diary, but never get around to this one. Of course, very little changes in the way of Alexandria’s life, so maybe that’s why!

Alexandria continues to do well at preschool. They recently had school pictures, but they are SO expensive. I am not joking, if you want (any pose) an 8 X 10, it’s $25.00. Al doesn’t like any of the pictures, and I have to admit, they’re not all the great. I am going to scan the proofs in, but I’d still like one of the shots. I picked a package that was about $30, and just one pose. *sigh* Al admitted it was more pictures than we needed (very true), because there are (at most) 3 people I’d send them to. Oh, well. I thought the picture was cute, but she just didn’t look good in it.

We’re gearing up for Halloween here. Alexandria has two parties to go to, one for her Creative Playtime class, and on the previous day for her other class. She is going to be a butterfly. I had her try her costume, and she seemed to like it. It seems a little big for her, and I don’t know how long she’ll keep it on, once there, but it’s not a big deal. She’s just starting to get to the point where she might have some idea what’s going on. I don’t think I’ll be taking her trick-or-treating, because let’s get real: it doesn’t matter to her. I may take her to the mall, and have her go trick-or-treating there, but that will be the extent of it. I also don’t feel comfortable walking around the neighborhood mooching for candy. There’s something so unwholesome about it. I felt differently when I was a kid, of course. However, as I said before, she’s not being deprived, because she won’t even remember anything about it, and I think she’d rather spend time with me.

Alexandria’s got another cold, but it’s pretty mild. She just has a lot of snot, and is sneezing ropes out of her nose. Now there’s an image to eat breakfast to! She’s also been a terror the last couple of days. She is hanging on things, and finally we had to lay down the law. She hung on our towel rack in her bathroom, and pulled one side straight out of the wall! She will now be sent to her room ANY time she hangs on anything. We can’t have her doing that. I think the same needs to be said for jumping on the beds, jumping off the beds, jumping off of furniture, etc. She has been getting to bed far too late (staying up when I need to get some last minute work completed), and then you can’t even wake her up in the morning. What she needs is to have a consistent bedtime, and she needs to learn to go to sleep by herself, whether she sleeps with me, or not. What a pain to have to do this all over again. I wish that one time (when I had her settled into her toddler bed routine) I’d just marched her back into her bed, and said too bad when she came into bed with us. Because now I get to start all over! And at my size and stage in pregnancy, I don’t really want to do that!

I finally put up one new picture on Alexandria’s website. You can see it at http://www.babiesonline.com/babies/u/urchin/
She’s reading her Froggy book. You can see the circles under her eyes. She’s been so tired lately. She fell asleep while I was brushing my teeth in the bathroom, and that’s rare for her. I need to take more pictures of her, but I’m just not the type. I feel like such a bad parent, too. I hope she can forgive me!

Well, that wraps it up for now. I can’t believe it, but I am already starting to think about Alexandria’s birthday and Christmas. I have some preliminary gift ideas outlined in my mind. My main problem is buying things that are too old for her, and then she winds up bored with them or breaking them. If anyone has some great gift ideas for 3 year olds, drop me a line. I was thinking a marble run kind of toy, but I know that’s waaay too old for her (by about 2 years, LOL). Anyway, help me out!
