Candace W.'s Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

August 22, 2001

School has started! I must admit I am somewhat relieved; so far it isn’t as bad as I thought it would be, and Alexandria seems to be doing well under the care of Daddy. I suffered from the usual first day jitters, but for me they were much worse. I woke up feeling terribly nauseated, and I just wanted to crawl back into bed and die. And it wasn’t like the first day was horrible or anything (not even close) but that didn’t matter, I was still as sick as a dog, I guess mainly because I was worried. I am probably going to have to get on some tranquilizer for my first day at my first job! LOL

Alexandria isn’t really on a schedule with her daddy, and she doesn’t really take naps, just what she manages to steal in the car when he picks me up. That drives me to distraction, but there isn’t a whole lot I can do about it. He doesn’t make her take a nap (I would), so she pretty much does her own thing. Then there was the day he was letting her paint stuff naked in the garage, but that’s a story in itself.
She walks, she talks! Alexandria is finally trying to imitate us speaking and it’s wonderful to hear her try to say things. She doesn’t do sentences, and she doesn’t do more than one syllable, but it doesn’t matter because she’s talking! She clearly says no, and she’s starting to pick up more and more new words, like couch, chair, up, down, hi, etc. I know a lot of people are like, “Yeah, yeah…” but this is exciting, because I was so worried she was having a problem with speech, so to hear her say these things is incredibly reassuring.

I have a confession to make: I am terrible about taking pictures. I want to take photographs of Alexandria, and I mean to, but somehow it never happens. When Alexandria was born, I never got the FirstFotos made (or whatever they’re called). I go for months without taking pictures, then shoot a roll up in a matter of weeks. Or days. I would like to post some more recent pictures, so I guess that will be something I get done this weekend (I hope).

I am busy buying books ($500+), trying not to throw up, keeping Alexandria from dragging Spaghetti O’s into the living room, keeping Alexandria in line (doesn’t really work all that well), keeping Al in line (doesn’t work either! lol), and the usual for a student/mother/wife!

So far, I have no teaching assistant assignment, someone screwed up somewhere along the line. I hope I get something decent. I was going to get an Organic assignment (excellent!) however, they learned I switched from Organic to Chemical Biology, and they took that away (grrr…) so now I have nothing, and everything has been assigned, so I may get to be a research assistant, or wind up doing something really easy (grader) or something totally the pits. I have no idea which. Either way, I will have to be a TA some time, instead of this semester, then next (and the one after that, we have a one year minimum). Which makes everything more complicated. Anyway, I hope everything works out, because this semester is hard enough without all the problems with getting a TA assignment. Wish me luck!
