Candace W.'s Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

July 3, 2001

Happy (early) 4th of July everyone! I hope everyone had a BBQ-filled day, with friends, family, and fun. More importantly, I hope everyone stays safe.

This week has been pretty much normal for us. Just tonight, Alexandria peed on the potty 4 times! I guess she didn’t want to “let it all go” at once! She got more cookies this way. Smart girl.

I am a chucklehead! I almost forgot to mention how the trip to Champaign went! Al went up there on Thursday, he left after Alexandria and I took off for school. We survived without him, but she did miss her daddy. She walked around the house saying “Daddy?” It was so sad. She was good, and went to bed without any problems. She usually visits daddy (and gives him kisses goodnight) before I nurse her to sleep.

Then, I got her ready, and I went to class. I could hardly concentrate on what was going on, and I was getting stressed out, worrying about making it there on time, and about getting lost, Alexandria having fits in the car, and I knew I was losing my mind. We had an exam that day, which I handily flunked (no joke). I thought I had done better, but that was not to be. I guess I really blew it. I had an A before that exam. Oops. I was so nervous, that as I was studying in the final minutes before class (the best time to study! ha!) I actually made a crack to someone about smoking their cigarettes if they left them, and I meant it. I hate smoking, my parents smoke, and I hated it then, and I hate it now, and I have never smoked. Why I had this craving to smoke one, I have no clue. Fortunately, it passed. I was close, if I hadn’t been nursing Alexandria, I would have lit one up. Yikes.

But, I digress. I nabbed Alexandria from daycare (they were kind enough to feed her there, at 9:00 instead of 11:00, so I could get on the road) and I fueled up, and we were on our way. Alexandria was perfect the entire time. I am not exaggerating. She babbled to herself in the backseat, she hugged her teddy bear, she shook him around, and she napped a little. (About 40 minutes.) The only time I heard a peep from her was the couple of times she dropped her teddy bear, and once I picked him up for her, she was perfect again. I could reach him once, so I had to pull over for that one. Once I returned the bear to her, she was fine. We made it in time, and the closing went well, except for the fact that Alexandria was just a demon during it. She figured out how to open the door, ans she spent the entire time trying to escape. She just wanted to run around, and tto destroy things. I was busy trying to scribble my signature and initials on about 40 sheets of paper, and keep Alexandria in the room, and trying to keep the room from looking like a tornado had hit it. That was a challenge. Then we looked around the house, and let Alexandria run around in it. I’ve included two pictures in the post of our new house, but we shall see if they ever get posted. Try, try again! They are of the front of the house and the kitchen. I’ll also post on the board if the pictures of Alexandria ever get posted with that entry I made a while ago. I hope they get posted eventually.

On the way back, Alexandria was almost as good as she was going there. She dropped her toys a little more often, and I did my best to accommodate her, and pick them up, and other than that, I didn’t hear a peep from the back seat. She also napped a longer time, about 1 hour and 20 minutes (or so). So, I’d say the trip was a success. So, now we are the proud new owners of a new home. It’s too bad we’re not moving in until another month or so. Groan.

So, we’ve had a pretty exciting week, and while it’s good to be back at our place (I refuse to call it home, Al calls it a dorm room), we want to move out! Since there is a lot of lightning and thunder going on, I’d better post this! Oh, one more thing, we had to buy those plastic things that fit over the doorknobs to keep Alexandria out, and they work great! I am pleased to be keeping her out of the laundry room (with its freestanding bucket of water which catches the air conditioner drippings) and the closets!

Till next week,

Candace and Alexandria
