Everyone is quiet for a moment, so I will finally post an update with what Alexandria is doing. First off, Al’s surgery went well. He was finished by 5:30 that evening (surgery was scheduled for noon) and he came home. His nose felt pretty awful for a while, and it still hurts, but at least he can sleep at night. He still snores a little, but not as much as before. It was pretty grim for a while, though. He was bleeding from the nose a lot, and had to wear a little square of cotton underneath to catch it. It was getting soaked about every hour, too. He got the packing removed early because it was starting to make his nose hurt even more. He had it removed on a Friday, and it was supposed to be removed on the following Tuesday. He goes to his final post-op appointment on the 13th. Hopefully, everything will check out okay, and everything up in there will be healed.
Let’s see…I took Alexandria to her kiddie class, which she enjoyed immensely. We met every Friday from 9:45-10:30, for a month. It was fun. She got a practice moving around, playing with a parachute, doing summersaults, etc. Basically, the class was to explore movement, and dance to music and that sort of thing. Then they had little games at the end that she could play, a sort of free-for-all. There was a slide, a little bowling game (she loved that one!), fishing, a ball hop thing, etc. She was one of the younger children there. It was for ages 2-3. One day Michelle (the teacher) asked the kids if they knew how to do a summersault, and Alexandria just up and did one as soon as she heard the word. Then Michelle asked her to show the class how to do one, which Alexandria happily did. Some of the older kids weren’t even able to do one yet! I was so proud! Anyway, that session just ended this last Friday. I can sign her up for the next one, but I am not sure I will. I am still debating. She did enjoy it so much though; I probably will sign her up. I also have her signed up for another one that starts on Tuesday. Al will take her to that one, because I have class at that time. They’re supposed to be making stuff there. It’s called “Shake and Make”. I know she’ll have fun there, too.
I must say, I am proud at how well Alexandria shares and lets other children play with things, and lets them take turns. I can assure you this has nothing to do with me. Either your kid will be like this, or not. It just so happens, Alexandria is so good with other children. If there was another kid in the class who wanted to play with the bowling pins and ball, she would say, “Kiddie’s turn!” and then run off to do something else. Periodically, when she was playing with it, she would ask if it was another’s child’s turn, and I would have to say, “Not yet, you can keep playing.” She loves to watch other children, and she is often too timid.
Al found that out at an indoor playground type thing in the mall. There was a boy who was blocking Alexandria from going down the slide. She tried to go around him, and he blocked her again, by moving his butt in her way. They were standing at the top of the slide, and Al was afraid Alexandria could get knocked down. The brat’s mother wasn’t paying attention, and if she were, I imagine she didn’t give a damn if her kid knocked down someone else’s. Anyway, so this kid is blocking Alexandria’s way…ohhhh, did that piss Al off! He grabbed the boy by the arm, and said loudly, “No, you don’t do that!” and let Alexandria get on though. The boy started to cry. He was about a year older than Alexandria, Al said. I was sad I missed this one. I would never have had the guts to do that, and I must say, I was pleased Al did. Don’t screw with Alexandria, or else. Ha!
Speaking of Alexandria and how well she gets along with other kids, we’re looking to increase our family shortly. We’re supposed to trying this month, but it’s not working. Al is sick with the flu, so that’s sort of prevented anything from going on. He spends a lot of time sleeping. And it isn’t with me! Ha! Anyway, I can’t wait to see what a great big sister Alexandria will be. She so good with kids, I know she’ll be wonderful with her siblings!
Classes are the same around here. I am passing them all so far, so that is an added bonus. I have a lot more time since I switched degrees. I am also trying to take it easy. Last semester was a killer, and I don’t care to repeat it. We have our first enzyme mechanisms exam on Thursday. It’s going to be quite the bitch. I can’t wait.
And, finally, I am getting some time by myself! I will be going to see David Copperfield perform at Assembly Hall here on the 11th! Some friends from school and I are going. It should be fun. I haven’t done anything for myself in a while.
Potty training isn’t happening. I have tried for a while to work with her, but she just doesn’t care if she’s wet or not. Even when I put underwear on her, I will have to change her, after she’s peed in them. She won’t tell me when she has to go potty. I know she’s capable, she just doesn’t want to. I had her in underwear one night, and she did rather well in them. She also sometimes takes her diaper off to pee, and she can even climb on the big potty, and use that one! I didn’t see it, I only heard her doing it. Then I asked her to do it again, and she did. I guess I have to wait until she’s ready. At least I’m not worried about how she’ll react to using a “real” potty, because she uses either one just as well…depending on her mood. If any veteran moms out there have any tips that would work for me, let me know!
Alexandria is talking more and more all the time! This is a far cry from when I thought she would never talk. Now it seems she doesn’t want to shut up. Which is a good thing. I wish I spoke German more fluently than I do, because then I would start speaking German with her. My college German, I’m afraid, isn’t enough. I really want Alexandria to fluent in more than just English, so I know I need to start soon. Does anyone have an opinion about those Muzzy language tapes? I was thinking of getting some of those for her. I don’t want to miss this window of opportunity.
We now have snow here on the ground, after having practically nothing way back in December. I wish it would go away. According to the news, it will by mid-week. We’re supposed to be getting warmer temperatures, into the 40s by Wednesday. I can’t wait for winter to be over!
I think I covered everything that has been going on. I am so glad the diary page got cleaned up! I also created an online photo album and uploaded some Christmas pictures into it. It’s on yahoo, and the album name is Alexandria Xmas. Here’s the link: http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/nmrspindoc/lst?.dir=/&.src=ph&.view=t
There is also a really old picture of Alexandria in the “My Photos” album. It was taken about a year ago. I will add more pictures to site soon.
Well, this is long, and life is short. I need to get someone down for their nap!
