Candace W.'s Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

January 9, 2001

I hate to be late with an entry, but I wanted to wait until Alexandria had her 1-year checkup to post. We left the house at around 3 p.m. and we got back at 7:30 p.m. Her doctor is an hour drive away. We really like our pediatrician, and he came highly recommended. Anyway, we waited in the waiting room about an hour and a half before we got in. We got in, she got measured (31 inches tall!) and got her head measured, and she was not happy. We stripped her; she was not too crazy about that, since she got wrapped in that tissue stuff. She started bawling when she was weighed, even though Daddy went with her. She was 21 pounds, 4 ounces. After some more waiting, she saw a doctor in training, and she just wouldn't stop crying. She really, really hated the whole deal. Then she saw the regular doctor, and she really hated him. It was so sad. She had tears running down her face, and she was gasping and almost hiccupping. She didn't stop until they left. She started again when they took blood from her toe, to see if she was anemic. She is a little, so we're supposed to give her some Poly-Vi-Sol. I haven't had a chance to go to the store and get it, yet. Then Al and I asked the nurses about the varicella vaccine, and I just nursed her to get her to calm down. She didn't finally calm down for good until we were driving away from the office. I'm glad I don't have to do this until three months have passed. I am not sure I could handle any more than that!

She is a lot of fun at this stage; she does so many cute things! And she understands a lot of what is going on, even if she cannot elucidate to us exactly what is going on in her mind. She absolutely loves to be pushed around on her little tricycle. It's a Fisher Price Rock, Roll 'n' Ride trike, and she will stand by it, and yell at me, then she will climb on it (usually the right way, too!) and I'll ask her "Do you want to go for a ride?" and she just squeals and jumps up and down on it. She could be pushed around in the darn thing for hours, if I didn't get tired of doing it. Sometimes I'm sorry I bought it. I will also admit to hiding it in our bedroom once or twice, just so she won't bother me about it. I guess that makes me horrible, huh?

She also enjoys her bouncing and rocking zebra that she got for her birthday. The second I took the zebra part out of the box, she scurried over to it, and started kissing it. Now if you tell her "Give your zebra a kiss!" She will give it a big kiss (I think I caught the zebra blushing once!) and wrap her little arms around its neck. It's too precious.

I got her new car seat on Monday. I had to give in and order the Marina color. I am actually happy that I couldn't get the Sapphire, because I think the Marina goes so much better with any color of car interior, and the Sapphire wouldn't really go well with much of anything. Alexandria loves the feel of the fabric on it; she was just sitting in it, rubbing the material when I took it out of the box. Now when she sees the seat, she walks by and pets it. Who needs cats?

We also bought our "new" used car today. I wanted a new car, but Al and Alexandria conspired to keep me out of the loop. We wound up getting a 2000 Chevrolet Impala, with some 30,000 miles on it. I thought we paid too much, but I didn't really have a say in the whole negotiating process. I bet my whining would have knocked at least another $500 off. Alexandria would not sit still, and I was chasing her all over the dealership. Every so often she would amble up to where Daddy was, and then she'd be off again, just running circles around everything. I was kind of unhappy when we left, because before Al left the house today, he told me "I hope this guy doesn't think we're buying the car today!" And I told Al I wanted to go to another dealership, and get their price on a new Impala, before committing to buying anything anywhere. I guess I wasn't clear enough.

Yesterday was my birthday, I turned a ripe old 22. Yahoo. Al told me the car was my present, so I didn't even get a card. Maybe I will score big next year.

Have a good week everyone!
