Star struck
Ella and I had a very exciting morning the other day. The town next to us has a fire station located directly next to the pharmacy and, as Ella and I were heading in to get some more hair gel and saline solution we saw the lights of the fire truck, which was about to back into the station. Hand in hand, we walked down to watch the fireman direct traffic and the big trucks pulling in, lights flashing all the while. Very exciting stuff; Ella’s eyes were like saucers. After the trucks were in Ella waved to the fireman and I told him that Ella loved fire trucks and wanted to be a firefighter when she grew up (did I mention this guy was CUTE and I’ve always had a thing for men in uniform?!?!). How could he resist charming little Ella, earnestly nodding that, yes, she wants to be a firefighter and flirtatious me, and he invites the two of us to come inside to see the fire station. Ella was positively star struck (okay, so was I, we’re talking about 6’1” with short salt and pepper hair and a really sweet smile) and we went in. We got to see the fire truck, the ambulance, the pole that the firefighters slide down. He even went into the fire truck and turned on the lights for us and then guessed Ella’s age and told us he has a two year old daughter himself, named Sydney (sigh, a family man… and I never even got his name!).
Ella was so excited that she wanted to go right back to the fire house after our trip to the pharmacy (me too, but I didn’t want to seem desperate). She told Jamie all about it in a rushed excited voice when we got home and I stood by looking like parent of the year for getting her into this childhood fantasy (And he turned the WITES on just for me!!)… What a louse I am…
The Big Girl
Ella is just loving being potty trained, and I have to say she has been doing a great job. We are now 14 days into it and I believe she has had a total of three accidents. The poor thing gets really worked up, crying and fretting when she wets herself, even as we assure her over and over that it was an accident and is okay. As quick as we can, we get her changed but I hate how badly she feels. On the other hand, I do love to hear her crow to anyone and everyone that will listen about how she is a big girl who wears underpants. She will loudly and proudly exclaim before and after she has done pee or poops, no matter if she is at her father’s office or the real estate office. She loves going to toilets in other people’s homes or offices, considering each triumph a new adventure. She has even been waking up dry after naps and in the morning (even though she doesn’t get up to go at night) but I am hesitant to start letting her use her underwear all night. I’m not sure, but isn’t there usually a pretty significant period between dry during the day and dry at night? Changing dirty sheets over and over isn’t my idea of a good time, so I think, even if she continues with the successes she has been having (and this has been with no coaching from me) I will still wait at least a few weeks before we clear this final hurdle. Right now it’s still a unique feeling to me to pick her up and be able to feel her sweet little round bum minus it’s bulky padding. It gives me a jolt of pleasure every time.
House problems
Well, things haven’t been going as smoothly with the house sale as we hoped. Short of a miracle, I think that we are going to pull out of the negotiations as we worked towards a purchase and sale agreement that was mutually agreeable. Our buyer is appears to be a very litigious, picayune, not to mention immoral woman. Even so, Jamie and I were so eager to have the sale go through that we were jumping through her hoops as fast as she tossed them to us. But when today, twenty minutes before the deadline to sign, she sent us an ADDITIONAL seven pages of addendums to the P&S and declared yet another deadline to sign, we really feel as though we have had it. We have decided to categorically refuse to ANY of the additional stipulations and basically give her a take it or leave it option on the original purchase and sale. We both think she will reject this and we will be back at square one but feel it is a last ditch effort to be reasonable and work on moving forward. To say this has been taxing, frustrating, and demoralizing would be an understatement. Now when we put our house back on the market it will seem ‘faulty’ since it has been available for nearly a month (many many houses go in less then a week around here). Nevertheless, I do feel at peace with our decision, as we know we have done everything we could that was reasonable and fair (indeed MORE then was necessary in the name of helping things move forward) so perhaps it was just meant to be this way. In the past, when frustrating situations have come up I have later seen that there truly was a reason and that things worked out for the best so I hope this is true in this case as well.
Finally, on a good note, I am doing maternity this semester in school (first of two six week summer semesters) and am absolutely loving it. We do two days/week in the classroom and two days/week on a maternity floor, primarily working with women who are post partum and their babies. I just love love love those tiny little babies, I swear I want to take every one of them home with me. I told Jamie this is definitely getting my hormones raging big time! It’s also nice to be working with women who are healthy and at a wonderful point in their lives. A refreshing change from all the sickness and gloom I am used to on these rotations.
Bonnie’s Book Reviews: A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius (Dave Eggars) An interesting book, I don’t know if I would call it ‘Heartbreaking’ or ‘Staggering Genius’ but it is definitely unique in it’s writing style and a out of the ordinary story about a man in his twenties raising his younger brother in California. It’s kind of the type of story that would be written if you took a lot of speed and wrote down absolutely every thought that ever popped into your head. Funny, but it gets tiring after a while.
As always, thanks for reading.
Bonnie
PS. Just a public service message for all you Brad Pitt fans out there. Don’t let the mediocre reviews of Troy stop you from going to the movie because it is a Brad Pitt lover’s DREAM. There are no less then four nude scenes with him (very tasteful ones, of course) and countless close ups of him basically just gazing off into space with his locks flowing in the wind. And the muscles! Wow! MMMMM mmmmm….
