Chastising the air
Well, as I feared, Ella has taken to using her new term, NO!, quite profusely. The other day, she was just hanging out in her crib and I was downstairs. I could hear her rolling around up there, and kicking the bars, but mostly she was just relaxing. Then all of a sudden I hear No! followed about every thirty seconds by a more and more adamant NO! I still don’t know what she was yelling at. Was her teddy bear misbehaving or was the blanket twisted around her uncomfortably or was she just letting her mind wander and it had settled on one of the (many) suggestions/ requests/ ideas that had been given to her earlier that she felt she needed to soundly reject? Well, what ever it was, she was adamant.

A few more examples have me fearing she has taken up the mantra as a general rule for living. The other day I was pushing her stroller through the mall and she started announcing No! I think maybe we were passing stores that she wasn’t keen on, but I’m really not sure. And then this morning she was watching Sesame Street and drinking her milk when she felt the need to take the bottle out of her mouth and sternly tell the TV NO! Not fond of the skit that was on? I don’t know… but isn’t this supposed to wait until she turns two… sigh…

Spring Holidays
Easter was very nice. We were at my mom’s and I spread a bunch of plastic and colored eggs around the lawn, which Ella went around and got, with much prodding (more then she probably needed but everyone was eager to help). Inside each of the plastic eggs I had put two or three raisins. My mom told me I was awful because I didn’t give her a single piece of chocolate all day but if she doesn’t really know the different why push it? She didn’t even notice the raisins until the next day… We went to brunch and my brother brought his girlfriend Liz, who is looking like she might be ‘the one’, so that was the most significant thing that happened there.

The next day was Patriot’s Day so I brought Ella down to the Center for her first parade. She had a great time sitting on my lap and waving to all the people. The highlights for her were the horses and the Elmo balloons that all the vendors walking by had. The lowlight was when all the fire trucks turned on their sirens at once. It was really loud, but somehow it seemed as though her howls were even louder. Maybe it’s just because they were right in my ear…

I think instead of a long entry I am going finish this with a list (that was very easy to come up with, I might add)

Without further ado, in no particular order

Ella’s top five daily messes

1. Pulling all of her books out of the bookshelf and scattering them around the room and throwing all of her toys out of the bassinet (toy box) onto the bed
2. Using a soup ladle and scooping all of the water out of the dog’s water bowl and onto the floor.
3. Taking everything out of our junk drawer in the kitchen and scattering it around on the kitchen floor. Now, mind you, this is a drawer filled with things she is allowed to play with but she does it in such a way… individually taking apart all of the coffee filters, for instance…
4. Playing with markers. In addition to coloring the paper, she also likes to see what would happen if we color the table or the floor. It’s also fun to hold the marker by the tip end, thus getting marker all over her hands, and also to run the marker through her hair, making sure to streak the face along the way. Lately, we’ve been limiting coloring time to crayons…
5. The mess she makes of her face. I am primarily referring to the frequent bumps, bruises, scratches and now STITCHES that she has managed to conjure up as she is constantly pushing the limits of exactly what she is capable of and what the world is capable of supporting.
6. My walk in closet. I have a nice walk in closet that I manage to keep pretty stuffed. Unfortunately it’s not heated so in the winter it is an icebox and I have the door securely closed as often as I can. But now that the weather has warmed up Ella is freer to toddle in and out and has gotten very fond of the place. Well, it is obvious why; it is a toddler’s dream in there. So far she has stayed away from my clothes (I should knock on wood as I type this) but my shoes are another story. Every single shoe is off the shoe holder and far far from it’s mate (unless they are all in one heaping pile). And usually one or two of the long lost mates is in a whole different section of the house as she likes to put one or two (but not of a pair) of the shoes on and shuffle around looking quite pleased. (sorry, couldn’t stop at five)

What do you think, should I send it off to David Letterman? Ha! If you think you can out do these, please stop by with your own entries on my TTM board. But remember, these are messes she makes regularly (at least once a week, many of them daily if I don’t get her first), not one time blow outs… In other words, THIS IS MY LIFE. But I love it!

Thanks for reading!
Bonnie
