Anne's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

November 12, 2003

Owen is 6 weeks today - daycare eligible! We weighed Owen on my food scale last week and he measured about 11.25 pounds. It's an old fashioned scale so we were curious as to how accurate it was. We put a cookie sheet on it and laid him on the cookie sheet. (Actually, I think it was a jelly roll pan, so he wouldn't roll off). Still 3 hours of sleep, then 2 hours, then another 2 hours seems to be his schedule. Ugh - to get a full night's sleep for once. It has been months since I've had more than 4 hours of sleep at once. One good thing is that I have my bladder back. I can go for hours and hours and not have to pee.

It was hot here over Halloween. G went as Zurg and thought it was OK. I know he would’ve liked to have been Batman but I just couldn’t justify paying $30 for a cheap costume. I couldn’t find a well made one. He puked Thursday night/Friday morning a few times, but damn it - my kid is going trick or treating. He was fine by the evening (and my niece had been sick, and my neighbor's kid - what a coincident). My brother has a party every year at his house. He's got a corner house and a great front porch. He has tons of decorations and we watch all the kids go by. He lives next to my mom which is the house I grew up in. So, it was great to go trick or treating in my old stomping grounds. I got to show G and Owen off to all the neighbors. I was able to walk without any pain for the first time. I felt good. We walked about a mile. And I didn't bleed the next morning. G got tons of candy for only hitting a dozen houses. They all said "We don't get the trick or treaters like we used to since all the kids have moved out of the neighborhood-how about another handful of candy." Like a 2 year old needs 2 handfuls of candy per house. One guy even had full size candy bars. And one house we went to had some neighbors of ours down here in KY - or at least they used to be. They moved and we never heard from them and they showed up at the door. How weird. We chatted for quite a while and they gave us a tour of their house. I wish I could move back to my neighborhood. It's way too expensive though. And we both need to find jobs in the area first too.

I made the birth announcements. They turned out nice. Sunday, the 2nd was Owen's baptism. We had it at my mom's church. It was nice to have the whole family (almost) there for a family event of my own. When G was baptized, we did it here and no one came. My sister offered to have the party at her house. We got a 6 foot sub and chips and drinks. K brought the cake, We had a cotton candy machine and a big blow up slide. My sister who hosted the party has a jumpy business.

Well, the big news is my brother won the mayorship. There was a great online article in the next day's paper...very cool.
We are all so proud of him. We were all at the democratic headquarters during the count. All but 2 of my siblings were able to be there. K drove 4 hours to be there and my brother flew up from Florida also. Another bonus was that we had a full house for Owen's baptism on Sunday. Anyway, once we realized he had won by over 2000 votes, we were all so happy. He showed up and everyone was cheering him on. Once it was absolutely official, he gave a great speech and everyone cheered at the end of every sentence. Afterward, we all went across the street to the Knights of Columbus hall. They had a reception with food and music and cigars. He pulled all the democrats with him with the exception of one seat on the city council. So, the democrats were very happy!!! Anyway, it was a good day for all.

I went to visit my sister in Ft Wayne, Indiana last week. I did a bit of shopping and G has had a great time playing with his cousin Henry. One night the two of him were taking a bath together and G pooped in the tub. It was so disgusting. My sister was like "you are cleaning that out!" So, we put the kids in the shower and he shit in there too. I told him beforehand NOT to poop in the shower, so he went to a toy that was like a potty and pooped in that in the shower. I sprayed tons of tilex in the tub and cleaned that out, then we put all the toys in the washing machine with bleach. YUK!

We are planning on going to the DC area for Thanksgiving. My sister B lives there and I'm looking forward to shopping at the great outlet malls and seeing an online Friend Corinne (Mother's Today writer).
