Anne's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

October 16, 2003

10/16/03 (Thursday) Owen is 2 weeks old and two days. He had his two week appointment yesterday and weighed 9 lbs and 1 ounce (he gained 1/2 pound) And he grew 1/2 inch to 20 1/2 inches. He looked great and the doctor seemed happy with everyone. He did have to have his foot pricked for a test. He didn't cry though.

Owen has amazed us all with being able to turn over. Of course, he has to be REALLY mad. He's very strong and I'm sure he does it on accident and it will be short lived. Then he probably won't do it again for months. We even got it on video. What he does is raises his legs but favors one side more than the other. This is all on his stomach. He somehow manages to put his left arm under him and with enough work maybe a minute or two, he slowly turns over. If he's not in the rolling mood, he rotates in a counterclockwise manner. I've mentioned this great feat to others and apparently, it's not uncommon and usually they stop after a while and restart months later. But, we think it's quite amazing for a 1 1/2 week old baby to turn over.

He still is not sleeping through the night. I know it's still early, but there are no signs of him sleeping more than 3 hours at a time. And when he gets up, he wants to stay up. He eats like a pig too. Last night we tried to bulk him up with formula. All that did was allow him to pee so much that it soaked his whole bed - twice! I'm not getting much sleep, but we can't stop trying. He does like sleeping during the day. He'll wake up, take a bottle or breast and go back to sleep immediately. I wish he'd do that at night. Sometimes, he'll stay up for over an hour, maybe 2 in the middle of the night.

G is a great big brother. He has developed a little attitude problem with me and Ron but it's slowly getting better. He loves his brother though. He will want to help feed him or do anything he can. Sometimes, when he sees me just looking at Owen, he'll come over and say "I wanna see his eyes." I think that is so sweet. Owen's eyes look blue, but I'm willing to wait a few more weeks for the final results.

Time to go...
Anne
