Anne's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

February 5, 2004

G and Owen had doctor’s appointments last week. G didn’t have to get any shots. He’s right on schedule and at the 50th percentile in height and weight. He was 37 1/2 inches and 33 pounds. Owen was 15lbs. 6 ounces and 24 ½ inches long. They said 15” but there’s no way. He also was in the 50th percentile and ahead on a few things, mostly strength related. He loves to sit up. Although he can’t stay up for long, he struggles to sit up. He is rolling all the time too. The doctor was happy to see that he is on schedule. He had 4 shots. But, basically, they are healthy and doing fine.

We had G’s birthday party last weekend and it was a success. G was so excited for his party that he woke up at 2 am ready to go. He just couldn’t sleep any longer. We put him on the couch with the TV on mute and went back to sleep, 3 times. He kept walking in the room “Sorry. Can I have some orange juice?” “Will you come out with me?” “Are you going to wake up?” It was a long night.

Although one of the daycare kids showed up, none of them called. The only reason they came is because I ran into her picking up her daughter one day. The was Mara. She had never gotten the announcement. But, plenty of the family showed up so we had more than enough kids for G to play with. The roll call: Jonathon and Anthony, Gracie and Lily, Rebecca, James and David, Macy, Chase, and Mara. Anyway, he got tons of action figures toys and cars and boy stuff. He got a few Batman things too. We had “goochy” dogs and mac and cheese and the cookie decorating was a big hit. After all the icing, sprinkles and candy they put on, they looked pretty gross to me. Interestingly, regardless of age, they HAD to put everything on them; every type of sprinkle, every color of icing, every type of candy, in each color available. I was a little ambivalent at first to do it because the kids were having so much fun running around, I didn’t think they’d sit still, but they loved it. We did it right after the cake. Oh, and the Cake, it turned out great. I got the pan in time and I even made homemade icing. Each kid got a treat bag full of candy, a batman mask, piñata treats, their cookie and a batman balloon. Once the kids left we put him in bed for a nap and when he woke up, he started down the stairs and asked “Where are my friends?” I didn’t understand why they had to go home. He wore his batman outfit all day. He loves all the toys he received.

I’ve been on Weight Watchers for 4 weeks now and have lost 6 pounds. 17 more to go. I am starving, or so it feels like it but I am feeling pretty good about the weight loss. I can actually fit in my size 12 pants now. I really like the WW program. I’ve been a lifetime member for over 10 years now. I just have to keep coming back. I like the way it is now. I also like the online tracking. I had a two week trial and now I’m hooked!

Both of my boys are getting a runny nose again. I wish they’d just get better. It doesn’t help Owen while we are trying to get him to sleep longer at night. We’ve been feeing him cereal in the evenings with a spoon. He’s getting the hang of it but seems to have an internal clock and wakes up at 12:30 every night and either 1 or two more times after that. So, the cereal hasn’t made a difference. The thing is, we know he isn’t very hungry. He’ll drink an 8 ounce bottle at 9 and when we give him a bottle at 12:30, he’ll suck on it and go right back to sleep when we put him in bid. If we let him, he’ll drink the majority of the bottle and finish it off at the second waking at 3:30.

I’ve been concerned about Owen’s circumcision. I’m sure he’ll love to read this when he’s older. He had a different procedure than G did. G had the plastibell and I was very pleased with the way it was done and the procedure. Owen had some kind of laser cut done by the OB. I just don’t think it took enough skin off. So, I’ve emailed my doctor and asked her if she thinks it’s possible to still put a plastibell on. We’ll see. I had asked her at the doctor’s appointment last week about it and she looked at it and said that it will always have excess skin and that I’ll have to make sure it stays clean. With G, it just wasn’t like that; it was low maintenance.
