Well, I'm 8 weeks along and feeling pretty good overall. Of course, then there's the fear that if I'm not sick enough then maybe something's wrong. But, I'd like to think that eating first thing in the morning and not eating fruit in the morning is the reason. Maybe, I'm just lucky this time. Maybe, I'm having a girl this time.
Last Thursday as I was leaving work, I kept noticing that something was in my throat. I decided to pick up G from daycare and go to the ER. Dh had to teach class so I was on my own. The doc looked down my throat and said, oh, nothing's there, you just have a cold. But, I didn't. He gave me baby-safe penicillin and sent me on my way. Friday morning I was still worried so I got an appt that morning at the doc's office. She looked (after making me gag twice) and said there's something on your tonsil. She told me that if it didn't dislodge over the weekend to call her back Monday. I got a hold of the doc on monday and she said it would take 2 days for the referral to go through. I was so mad thinking I can't live with this thing anymore. I called my mom who knows an ENT on our health plan. They were able to squeeze me in yesterday. I called my health insurance people and they told me that as long as the doc put the referral in on Monday it would be dated Monday and it shouldn't be a problem. So, off I went to doc #2. He looks down there and says there's extra skin on my right tonsil. That it's like a skin tag but not really. He gives me some decongestant to dry me out and tells me to continue taking the penicillin. Well, the penicillin is like a sleeping drug because I zonked out for two hours after I took it. I got dizzy and high. So, I only took 1 teaspoon last night before bed and decided there's no way I can take it before work. I did take the penicillin which smells and tastes bad. They are little white pills. Last night I gagged on the second one and I spit it into the sick with other bodily fluids. So, I only ended up taking one pill last night. So, I'm still living with this lump thing. The doc says it should go away in a week or so. He says he has seen this with other PG patients. That sometimes hormones activate the tonsils to swell. Is that weird or what??? I hate it!
Saturday, we all drove up to see my dad. Mom moved him into the lock-up ward at the nursing home. He was walking around the hall with very little clothing and going too fast in his walker and could've hurt someone. It's not that he was trying to go fast but that he has no control and basically falling and pushing at the same time. And the list goes on. It was very sad for my mother and brother's who helped move him. My dad has stopped eating and lost about 40 lbs in the last few months. You can barely understand what he says anymore because he talks so low. He's partly delusional and psychotic. It is so hard to see him this way. I like to visit though because the other old folks love kids. Dad likes to see G too. Although, G is a little afraid of Papa. He's scary.
Then we went to dinner with mom. She's doing OK with it all but feeling bad about having to leave him there. She's starting to think about in-home care. Before, it wasn't an option because he was moving around more and getting into too much stuff at home. He has fallen too many times and hurt himself. He needs 24 hour care and mom could't do it. The house really isn't designed for an elderly person. It's got tons of steps and dogs and junk. But, now that dad is slower and because she hates to see him there, she's looking at her options. It's hard to find someone 24 hours a day, let alone someone honest enough not to steal.
Sunday morning G slept in and then spiked a fever of 103.4. He has never had that high of a fever. He never had the runs or vomiting. But, he responded well to the tylenol or motrin. Monday, he stayed at home with his big brother who was out of school due to snow - AGAIN!. He'll be 20 next month. And everything went fine. The house was a disaster but G was asleep on the couch pillows on the floor - totally zonked out.
So, that's what is going on.
