Been There, Done That, Learned My Lesson
Funny Potty Training Stories from the Trenches
By Kelly Burgess
Every mom has probably heard that children sometimes regress back to diapers when a new little brother or sister comes home from the hospital. In the case of Becca and Colin Davis, it had the opposite effect. When Nan Davis of North Canton, Ohio, brought Colin home, big sister Becca took one look at him and his diaper, and was appalled, screaming out "HE WEARS THOSE?" Becca was instantly potty-trained because she didn't want to be a baby like him.
For all you parents who are desperate to potty train a stubborn child, Davis suggests another child.
All of our parents learned a thing or two from the potty trenches and emerged with their senses of humor intact. For those who can't quite see the light at the end of the tunnel, Lage urges you to think of potty training as a journey, and remember that each accident brings you closer to the last one you'll ever have to clean up.
And one last, wise word from our humorist, Gruen, who says, "I don't think even the Boston Red Sox fans could have whooped with joy as heartily when their team won the World Series as we did on that day when our son finally gave us hope that he wouldn't be diaper-bound for life. Lesson learned: Eventually, they all become potty trained, even if you have to go into debt to support the diaper habit."
