Fall In!
What's a Dad to Do When the Weather Turns?
By Mark Stackpole
Can't get away from the chores? While inviting the kids to jump into a newly raked pile of leaves won't make your life easier, it can make it a little bit more fun. Especially, says Henry, if you get in on the jumping. "Sometimes you just have to be a kid again," he says. "Your kids will have fun, and you'll enjoy it more than you can imagine."
activities are no longer the best option? Bake, of course. Matthew Henry suggests dads put on an apron and create some goodies. "Get in the kitchen and show the kids that moms aren't the only ones who can bake!" he says. "The fall is a great time to bake apple pies or pumpkin bread. Have fun choosing the ingredients together and then set aside an afternoon." Fall offers a calm from summer vacation madness and the frenzied freeze of winter. As Mother Nature takes her cool, deep breath, families can do the same. The hush of a low sky and falling leaves doesn't mean dads and kids can't continue to make a little noise. After all, those little hands (with some help from the big ones) have a lot of cooking, carving and costuming left to do before the sun goes down.
