Oh Baby, Don't Go There!

Some Not Too Baby-friendly Places

Playing Doctor
A trip to the gynecologist conjures uneasiness and fear for many women. Compounding the myriad of emotions with the need to occupy your toddler or concerns about nursing your baby doesn't always bode well for accurately reading your blood pressure or relaxing for a pelvic examination. This goes for the dentist, too.

"In order to avoid fear of the dentist or hygienist, parents might not want to bring children to witness their dental checkups," says Dr. Matthew Messina, a dentist and consumer advisor for the American Dental Association from Fairview Park, Ohio. Leaving your child at home will also give you the opportunity to cope with your own anxiety or pain.

Big Screen Baby
When Lisa Jaeger, a mother of two from Baldwinsville, N.Y., saw the epic movie Titanic, she was both surprised and annoyed that a couple toting an infant and a toddler sat a few seats away from her. "The movie didn't let out until midnight," says Jaeger. Believing that children shouldn't be at movies with anything other than a G rating is popular among moviegoers hoping to relax and enjoy an entertaining evening out.

"In addition to the material being too mature for a young child, parents leaving the seat several times to change a diaper or quiet a child, having a child kick the back of someone's chair or cry through a movie isn't fair to everyone who hired babysitters for their children," Jaeger adds. /p>
