Home, Safe Home
Part One
By Jenny Rackley
If your house has a "popcorn" ceiling, have it evaluated for asbestos.
Bathroom
Bathrooms can be one of the most hazardous places in your house. The following areas can be potential troublespots.
Water temperature : Set the temperature of your water heater to 120 degrees Fahrenheit so the water won't scald your child if it comes right out of the faucet hot. - Tub safety : Place a mat in bathtub to cushion falls and prevent slipping Pad the faucet with a slip on cover to prevent bumped heads. Never leave your child alone in the tubū not even to answer the phone. A child can drown in as little as one inch of water.
- Hazardous appliances: Keep blow dryers, electric razors, and radios out of reach of curious children.
- Toilet safety: Put a safety lock on your toilet so toddlers don't splash in the dirty water. Toddlers are also top-heavy and may topple into toilets and drown.
