Homemade Holiday Presents

Help Your Little Ones Make Their Own Gifts

By Linda Sharp

Pages:  1  2  3

Look around and you will see that both girls and boys are wearing a variety of beads around their necks these days. This is a great gift that is simple and inexpensive.

Items Needed:

  • Elastic string ($2.99 for 10 yards)
  • Bag of alphabet beads ($2.99 for 200)
  • Bag of accent beads ($1.99 for 200)
  • Bag of jewelry fasteners ($1.99 for 20)

Let your child decide on the name and design, and then have them measure the elastic around their own necks, adding about 2 inches for attaching the fasteners. Then they simply string the beads in order, tie on the fasteners and cut off the excess elastic! A wonderful "best friend" gift in under five minutes! (And if your kids are like mine, they have A LOT of "best friends"!)

Personalized Mugs
One of the best craft items I have found for my youngest to work with is this "Create Your Own Mug" – ONLY $.99! The mug is clear plastic, comes with a white plastic insert and a variety of coloring strips they can decorate and then insert between the mug and liner. You may also cut plain white paper into the same size of the strips, and they can personalize them even further. It makes a wonderful gift for the World's Best Grandpa, Teacher, etc!

Regardless which gifts you choose to help your child create, be sure to take a moment to stop and experience what is actually their gift to you: the wonderful, sweet memories of their small hands, their big hearts and their smiles full of love.

And afterall, that is what the holidays are all about.
