Exploring Passover
Activities for Your Family

Passover is a special holiday celebrated by Jewish people. It commemorates the time when the Jews were freed from slavery in the land of Egypt.
Today Passover is celebrated by having a seder. The word "seder" means "order." During this ceremony the story of Passover is read as a reminder that the Jewish people are now free from slavery. There are several special traditions that happen during the Passover seder. Traditional and symbolic foods are eaten to help remember the Jewish people and their road to the promise land.
This year, celebrate Passover with these fun activities! Younger children should be supervised when doing these crafts.
You'll need:
- Clear glass plate
- Construction paper
- Scissors
- Rubbing alcohol
- Cotton balls
- White school glue
- Small foam brush
- Decoupage medium
While the plate is drying, cut out your shapes to glue on. Cut out any shapes that remind you of the Passover story. Maybe you could cut out a crown to remind you of Pharaoh or a basket to remind you of Moses when he was a baby. You also could cut out chains to remind you of the Jewish people in slavery.
Once all the shapes are cut out and the plate is completely dry, begin gluing the shapes onto the plate. Make sure to glue them on the outside edges of the bottom of the plate. This way you will be able to see them while you are eating on your plate.
Once the glue is dry, coat the entire bottom of the plate with the decoupage medium. Be sure to follow the instructions, as each medium has slightly different guidelines. Let it dry.
