3. Tools
Every guy has toolbox envy; it's an occupational hazard of carrying around so much testosterone. Once we've mastered the simple tasks like hanging picture frames, we want to tackle bigger projects – the ones requiring really cool tools.

Do a quick inspection of your guy's toolbox, mentally scan the items it contains, then head to your local home improvement store. Is there a project you've been secretly envisioning? Describe it to a staff member and ask what kind of tools it requires. Whether a staple gun or ratchet set, drill bits or toggle bolts, it's a good bet at least something needed for the job won't be part of the current inventory. Your partner will be so happy to receive a new tool he'll dive into that project without a second thought. And remember that the tool doesn't have to be big, loud or complex to be appreciated. It's all about filling out the toolbox. Even needle-nose pliers are a great gift if he doesn't have any.

4. A Tie
No, seriously. The joke about getting yet another tie on Father's Day isn't quite accurate. It's getting yet another bad tie that so many men dread. A tie can't be bought in isolation; it needs to complement the shirt it's placed with, and, ideally, the entire outfit.

One day, when your guy is out, grab one of his suits from the closet. Take it to a decent men's store. Identify a salesman who seems stylish and falls within the same age range as your partner. Tell him you need a shirt and tie to match the suit you're holding. Try to resist the urge to be too outlandish; you need to strike the balance between your desire for your beau to look like a movie star and his desire simply to look sharp without appearing as though he's trying too hard. When he opens the shirt and tie and sees it placed against the suit, he'll wonder how you're able to color-coordinate so effortlessly.
